well...it looks like its gonna take a while for this to be sorted...maybe an idea to stop levelling up so quick so they won't have to update the rankings....hahahahaha! =P

thats no excuse tbh, i used to manage over 5000 servers and never had any problems with them going down for more than 15 mins. at the end of the day how hard is it to press reset on a pc, or remote desktop in and restart, not long i can tell you, infact if they are clever they will have a script that goes and restarts all servers, but i'm betting they don't have one of them. But what i actually expect is its not something simple like a restart like we've been told.
and its even easier to spend 1 minute coming onto a forum to explain what the problem is and give a reasonable time-frame for the return.
At the end of the day they are effectively offering a service that we pay for. a little customer service would have been appreciated, and i will keep going on about this.

maybe there is a fundemental prob that needs a quick repatch or game recode or something that would account for the long delay
or the data is trying to be recovered instead of just loading the back up?

depends what servers they use and what type of database they've used, i've certainly restored complete databases with over a few gig of data within about 10 mins, but use something like a web-farm and you'll have failover db servers and the data then fixes itself.
anyway i've done enough moaning for today, i'm off.

well all i can say is they better have a bloody good reason for this then coz from what your saying an accomplished techy could fix almost any prob certianly within 1 hour 
im really not impressed as we all are not, but i guess there is nothing we can do but suck it up and wait
