Ambush Log 04-05-2007 18:22 Forum: Game system

Having spent a couple of days in 'non-premium' mode (due to external complications) i have noticed that an active player's message box is mostly filled up with ambush logs and it is hard to immediatly see (sometimes impossible in fact) important messages from friends/allies until you have scrutinized the attack logs.

Why couldn't ambushes be sent to another box?

I know server space is always a concern, and suggestions for another 'inbox' or related have been quashed but i really feel this would be a valuable use of server space. You could put a 'cap' on it like you do with the mail box, but you would lessen the travesty suffered by non-paying players a little, i feel.

Clan Slot Spawning 04-03-2007 11:53 Forum: Game system

Greetings,

I can't find the answer to my question so i do apologise if it is mentioned elsewhere.

I'm wondering what parameters activate a new empty slot within a full clan. When i created my clan i think i had 20 free places, now i have 22, but i can't seem to repeat whatever conditions were needed for another slot to spawn.

At first i thought it was simply a case of being 1 day at full capacity, now however i know this to be 'not the case'.

Any help greatly appreciated as always!

DH, I think the boss puts it quite clearly here!!

A less polite way of saying this would be something like, "Why should valuable space be allocated to people who are silly enough not to 'save' important messages?"

5TH's Newby Guide to IRC/mIRC 03-14-2007 14:52 Forum: Mishmash - Underworld

This is mostly for the english speaking members!! (most of the guys and gals from the polish server already know this)

If you have never used Internet Relay Chat (IRC) before you first need to read here:

INTRO TO IRC

Now you know all about IRC, you can go straight to chat in java if you so wish! CLICK ME SEYMORE!! ...as long as java is working on your browser properly you should be ready to choose a username!

How to choose a Username:
Type /nick insert your desired nickname here
so if you wish to be known as flipper you would type this exactly

/nick flipper

Easy huh? Well done. You are well on your way to IRCness Big Grin

Next thing you should consider doing is registering your nickname. Why? Well, because this is a game it is always possible that someone would be sneaky and sign in pretending to be you to try to obtain cheap recon. It happens. With the next part you will be able to password protect your nickname. All you need is a couple of simple commands and your email.

Registering Your Nickname
1. Make sure you are using the nickname you wish to register!
2. type:
/msg Q HELLO your email here your email here
you must type your email exactly right, twice. Your password will be sent to your email!
3. Check your email and click the link that QuakeNet has sent you. Type in the confirmation code, obtain your password Big Grin
4. Return to the chat window now you have your password. You will see on the javachat window at the bottom there is a button labelled "STATUS", click this. This window becomes more important, the more you know about IRC commands and functionality. For now, let's just call it a security window. Anything you type in the STATUS window will NOT be seen by any other user.
In the status window you must type exactly what you found when you visited the link from your email. It will look something like this:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH yournick yourpassword
Once you hit enter you will be treated to a bunch of information which should finally read something along the lines of:
-Q- AUTH'd successfully.
-
-Q- Remember: NO-ONE from QuakeNet will ever ask for your password. NEVER send your password to ANYONE except Q@CServe.quakenet.org.

Big Grin
Give yourself a massive pat on the back, you just became registered on QuakeNet! If you didn't get the confirmation, don't worry, IRC is a fiddly old system. Retrace your steps and don't hesitate to ask me in this thread. Try to be as clear as you can, feel free to PM me, anything, JUST DON'T PANIC Big Grin

The last basic step you need to perform is simply changing your password to something easier for you to remember!

Changing Your Password
Best to do this in the STATUS window, incase you make a mistake NOBODY will see what you have typed! The command for changing passwords is NEWPASS. Here is how it is used:
1. Make sure you are in the STATUS window
2. Type:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org NEWPASS youroldpassword newpassword newpassword
So, if your old password was R2D2 and you want to change it to excalibUr you would type:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org NEWPASS R2D2 excalibUr excalibUr
*remember passwords are cAsE sEnSiTiVe!

To test this step, close the chat window, click on the Chat Link again, type /nick yournick then type /msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH yournick yourpassword (from the STATUS window to be safe) and you should get logged in with your new password!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! you have now exhausted my newby guide to IRC chatting!

PART II: Using mIRC to connect to Bloodwars Chatrooms

Hello again chatters, apologies for the amount of time it has taken to get this part two done, I've been rather busy with a couple of things.

First thing i need you to do is go HERE and get mIRC for your computer.

Once it's installed click the icon on your desktop (or locate the .exe and run it), you will be presented with a screen that looks something like this:

(screen one)

Fill out your details, you do not need to put your actual name in the name box, i do when i use it but that is simply personal preferrence. You are completely at liberty to choose to remain anon. Make sure you use a valid email though!!

Once you have done that part, you need to connect to a server. It's pretty simple stuff. Look at the picture above again and click on servers in the left menu tree, you should be presented with a screen that looks like this:

(screen two)

Next bit is a bit tricky. You need to locate QuakeNet in the drop down menu where on my picture it says ALL. Drop down the menu, hit 'Q' on your keyboard and hopefully it should be the second 'Q' item in the list. If it is, brilliant, select it and skip the next part.

If you can't locate QuakeNet in the list you need to follow this part. Click on ADD and you will be presented with this screen:

(screen three)

Where it says Desription type something you will remember. Like for instance, Bloodwars. Where it asks for IRC Server you need to type this information exactly as it is here!

irc.quakenet.org

Choose port is always 6667, check it is 6667 and leave it if it is, change it if it isn't! Don't bother with 'group' or 'password', it's not needed at this stage.

This is how your window should look now:

(screen four)

Click 'ADD' and you should be taken back to screen two but with the information added thusly:

(screen five)

Hit connect and you should be blessed with connection to QuakeNet Big Grin , you'll see something like this:

(screen six)

Spectacular huh? You have just passed your first test as a mIRCsketeer Smile Connection to a server using the mIRC client. Very well done.

When you used the java version of IRC, you were directed straight to the room for Bloodwars UK, with mIRC it is a little different, you will need to use the STATUS window to join the room. Do that now, type:

/join #bloodwars-uk

and you will be transpoted magically into the wonderous kingdom of bloodwars uk chat Big Grin except now you are totally better than everyone who is silly and still using crappy java hahahah Smile

All the rest of the commands are the same as when you were using java, so you can make your nickname by typing /nick (yournickname) like before and also AUTHORISE your nickname by using the same method outlined in the above section:

type /msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH yournick yourpassword (from the STATUS window to be safe) and you should get logged in with your new password!
**Don't forget to use the status window for these commands incase of mistakes!**

Remember? Good Big Grin Happy chatting Big Grin and as always dont hesitate to get in touch if you encounter any problems with this tutorial!!

Ha ha... I WISH Big Grin no, it was not a golden daemon lol, it was a comp run by a local shop, in Leeds. I was regional winner though, for my age group. I was only 15 lol... such a long long time ago!

Yeah, as you can see from the wings, i wanted it to look ravaged, like it had been in the wars. So i made a few wings ripped and torn. It's certainly a battle scarred warrior Big Grin

I drew it whan i was er.. gosh, i dunno. About 17 i think. Then i scanned it onto my computer about 2 years ago and messed about with it in photoshop. I have the 'unedited' version somewhere on my HDD.

The picture was a Swooping Hawk Exarch, but i kinda used a bit of artistic flair. It's basically a Swooping Hawk though.

The miniature painted there actually won a competition.

Thanks for the appreciation, if i had the income spare i would still have painting miniatures as a hobby. One thing i used which helped with the font painting is a finely spliced matchstick. It is as thin as a thin brush but more robust like a pen!

Wiping insects out with a hoover? Is that quest for appearance or quest for toughness? LOL.

I live with a friend and she has cats, 4 of them..

Cookie, Sparkle, Rizzo, Cleo. We also have squirrels in the garden, they are currently digging up the nuts they buried regardless of the fact they haven't hibernated this year because of the strangely warm winter we have experienced.

There are some spiders here but i don't hoover them...

03-11-2007 19:52 Forum: Bugs and problems

I'm afraid i feel the need to point out a couple of things.

Firstly and MOST IMPORTANTLY, how on earth do you think making another topic is going to help? Now the admin are going to waste time reading about something which is already illustrated here. That specific amount of time which is now being spent reading the other topic is not going to be spent fixing the problem.
Next, if you have been trying to register for 2 days, why on earth are you only just now alerting the administration to the problem, whenever this problem is now resolved will be a whole 24 hours after it would have been possible had you not spent 2 days deliberating over whether or not to ask about it.
Since joining this game i have experienced the players and forum to be most polite and curteous, values which are often too few and far between in this day and age, qualities which should be respected and repaid in kind. I'm quite sure there is a limit however to the patience of the admins, they are human after all.
Lastly, this game is offered to everyone for FREE, yes that's right, read it again, shocking isn't it? Another thing in short supply these days, a truly win/win offer!! Totally free for absolutely no money at all whatsoever. Now, considering that, i'm sure you can understand that admins cannot be expected to also work miracles.

Believe me when i say, from administritive experience, that we are all tremendously happy and grateful that you have come forwards with this bug/problem (which i apologise about labelling "not a bug" in my first reply). Without people coming forwards admins would never find bugs, it is to be encouraged and i'm sure they thank you for that, nay we all do for once fixed it will mean more players, more fun.

What is tiresome however is watching the topic grow and grow for no good reason. It consumes time, time is a resource, a lack or drain on resources is going to hinder solution!

Think once Big Grin
Think twice Big Grin
Think: Perhaps i'll keep posting in this topic to a minimum in order to make it easier for admin to see/solve the problem, perhaps i'll go and get to know the game by reading other topics while i await resolution, perhaps even go and post some in the offtopic section and get to know some of the players better.

You know it makes sense guys!!

Finally, i finish my lecture by saying i'm very pleased to see you two are from UK, i certainly hope you stick around.

Surely it would be easiest to simply have to 'equip' the item before it is used?

I'm glad you pointed this out though Storm, it certainly is something i would have been a bit upset about considering the price tag on those disposables!!

Ah... different problem.

I think checking your java settings would probably be the next thing to do. For IE it's located in the Tools menu and in Internet Options.

java tester

This is a handy tool to make sure your java is working properly.

Someone with a little more knowledge on how the game is scripted will be along soon, so keep watching if nothing i suggest works. I'm not really supposed to helping rofl, i just have a helpful nature about me *chuckles*

Not really a bug dude...

Are you picking 'underworld' from the drop down menu on the right of the login fields?

Make sure: Select 'underworld' in the drop down menu, then hit registration. Hopefully that should solve your woes!

Techno? LOL

Has anyone listened to VNV Nation or Apoptygma Bezerk? Or Wumpscut? These bands could arguably be labelled techno, but i assure you it is not easy to make their music. It's great for dancing to, if you are out in a club. Sometimes it's nice to actually have something gothic to dance to without feeling the need to simply stand about bobbing your head up and down like some demented candle maker...

Yup, i noticed that too lol. No exp from task, only progress points.

I didn't make many attacks on lower beings, i quickly found there was more exp to be had from feeding off higher beings!!

I find that if i'm low on resources, then the best choice of action is a quick easy hit on a lower being, but if it's experience i'm after, the higher beings yeild more Big Grin

Such a great game, i learn fast too..

At this moment i'm listening to Big Country lol, figure, it's friday afternoon and cleaning the house is good with Big Country.

Other things i've listened to today are my new Incubus Anthology, Dark Medieval Times by Satyricon, La Masquerade Infernale by Arcturus and Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk by Emperor.

As you can see, i've had an almost completely dark metal day. Housemate is home now and she is not a great fan of things norweigan and black so i'm going to be chilling out somewhat. Perhaps something by Gong since you mentioned Acid Jazz!

I quite like the idea. The forum where the clans are, at the moment, seems rather foreboding abd although this is a horror based mmo, people need to start to get into the community spirit somewhere.

I've worked on lots of mmos in the past, some very famous. This mmo is absolutely my favourite at this time BUT... it lacks a certain something??

Not everyone wants to get to know people by using the randomness forum, some people want to remain utterly immersed and head straight for the recruit forums.

Maybe if another slant on the recruit forum is not viable, how about a 'mentor' forum? Where you could volunteer your services to kinda 'watch over' a newbie?

As far as spam is concerned, i LOVE it lol, however i also respect the fact that it has a time and a place and that not everyone shares my love of it. Indeed, some people find it irritating to say the least... so? Commit to a zero tolerance on spam? Spam once, outside of designated areas, get banned. Easy!
