Sorry to see you go, but I guess all things end.
BoS became a good home to me (maybe too good for RL!)
Good luck man!

Banned for unknown reason 05-13-2010 03:18 Forum: Complaints - R1 Underworld

I was trying to set up an expo at 0300 or so, and the site froze. I clicked again maybe once or twice (at least 10 sec apart) before closing and reopening. The login was very slow but worked. I clicked once on message (I had one) and was immediately kicked out with this message:
Your account has been temporarily banned.

Account will be unbanned automatically in 59 min. 8 sec.

Reason for ban: [Other] Anti-bot II System

I do NOT have any bots and did not refresh anything quickly or many times. My IE browser is the same as I've used for months. I have updated anti-viral software that doesn't see any problem. Obviously, I won't be able to do my expo, but I would like to know why this happened.

Hopefully, your auction won't be cancelled. This is a great example of our becoming paranoid. I really want to complete my solar set, so if I had had the stones, I would have kept bidding!!

This is what I think is destructive. The assumption that if someone "overbid" that they AND the unsuspecting guy who put the item up for auction are both cheating and should be banned forever. I think there are many reasons that are hard to see for someone to "overbid". They may be really eager to have an item or do a merge, they may have lots of stones and want to make sure they get what they want, they may just not have a good idea what the item is worth. And so on...

Before you destroy a player's potentially years of efforts building their charactor, you should at least define precisely "overbid". In the real world, obviously, people who auction stuff like to get high bids. If you don't want a free market and open competition (which by its nature allows dumb or desperate people to make high bids!), then give every item a price. The auctions will be boring, but predictable (and then favor whomever is always online looking and ready to bid for what he wants). Of course then, will you say it's cheating to tell another player when you will put up an item for auction?

But as you can see from the posts in this thread, what is or is not overpriced is VERY subjective. Plus, one often feels forced to bid more than you think something is worth when the auction heats up or when you really are desparate for something. This makes the auctions more exciting. It would be sad to lose that out of excessive worry that high priced auctions are cheating.

witch hunts 04-03-2010 18:16 Forum: Mishmash

It seems to me that we have gone paranoid about pushing. Aside from people with multiple accounts or maybe close RL friends, I don't really see why anyone would risk banning to give away hard earned stones to someone they may have never met (most clan members for example). Even if you have fancy ways of hiding your IP, you can't hide that a specific character in game is overbidding multiple times for items from another specific character. So even if you want to cheat, if you do it more than once or twice you'll leave a red flag. And stones from most reported single auctions (the reported auctions are usually not for 20 SS, which maybe it should be investigated) won't likely make a huge difference for anyone.

I looked briefly at closed auctions and see that more than half the solar rings sold in the last 6 months are reported. Does anyone really believe half the people buying solar rings are just pushing??

I'll give you my own current examples that makes me feel uncertain and annoyed instead of happy to get a good price for drops from quests:

Today, I got 1SS 1MS for Murderous scythe of betrayal +3. I had put it up with a minimum of 200 and almost immediately someone bid 650. Did I underestimate the current value? Did he maybe misclick an SS instead of LS? Did he just want to make sure he got it? It certainly prevented further bids, and he did get it! If I report it and SZ... cancels it, then I waste an auction slot, the bs I spent, and the opportunity for someone to have bid more than 200, and of course can't use the stones in the current solar signet auction!
So just now I see another example unfolding. I'm offered 150, again by the first bidder, for a Hypnotizing tie of authority +4 that I just put up for 50. Is this too risking a ban if I don't report it? (obviously, I can't report it till it's over!)
The rules here are vague! If admin really believes cheating is rampant, then put limits of every possible item (there are obviously some players who would love to help set them!) And perhaps allow only minimum bids and raises.
I obviously think these would be terrible ideas for the game, but I'm open to comments, hopefully including admin.

I think Luke is correct, but it can be stated more simply. With 200 rep, your size 12 BG, plus the multiplier from Arms shop, adds 8000+ to your base HP. When Eve steals 6 agents, that takes your BG down by 50%, so you lose 4000+.

OK, I sort of understand the problem. It has nothing to do with proxy servers or laptop configuration. For its wifi service, this hotel uses a multiline connection with some kind of line balancing, which automatically and frequently switches users to the least used line. Although my IP address doesn't change, apparently the BW server (and Yahoo chat and others) detects the line change and logs me out. The tech guy here says his setup is better for speed during periods of peak usage, so he thinks more hotels and wifi hotspots may use this approach in the future.

My question for admin here: is there any way your anti-bot settings (or whatever is causing the logout) can be adjusted to allow line switching without logging us out?

I don't think so-I'm using my hotel's (Hotel Intercontinental) standard overpriced high speed wifi access-also tried their wired connection with no difference.

immediate session expiry 10-27-2009 13:16 Forum: Bugs and problems

Id in game:
figeac82
Problem description:
I can log in without a problem, but then within the next 1-3 actions I am logged out with the message such as "You have been logged out because of session expiry (e1-87.202.192.148(54174)/87.203.243.22Cool . " It happens too fast to complete any useful actions.
I'm using my usual laptop (windows xp) with new wifi connection (hotel) that seems to be stable, works fine at other websets and has stable IP address.
Please advise.

I think making the higher level mobs harder is not such a terrible idea. The lower level players struggle to use every point available to squeeze in the best team to try to kill chickens, RDs, and even hydras. But the high level expo players can kill the mob most times with far less than the max allowed participants. Doesn't this suggest that those expos are too easy?
