@ Ba_al: what 12 year old with a gun is evil? Wink I was going for unsettling though, actually I was going for dark humor but unsettling works too. This isn't even very unsettling compared to the Christmas story I wrote the other day. That one's too long to post though and it's really just the one scene that's really creepy. I know, Christmas and creepy shouldn't belong in the same sentance...lol.

@warlock: Haha, that's actually one of my favorite lines too. The only problem with a daughter like Jane is when she actually hits puberty. You think she's fearless now...lol.

@Mortis: Well I'm not *technically* back. Just popping in for a visit really. I might disappear again after this comment. Well, until I write something else small for the arts forum.

Little Red Glock 11-27-2011 01:29 Forum: Our Stories

I'm baaacccckk...well at least to share a story or two. This is really the only forum I know of that I can post entire stories or chapters and get feedback quickly from people I know, or at least have talked to.

Anyway, I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and actually achieved the goal early. The goal is 50,000 words in a month, I completed that goal by the forth. It's amazing what a non-gaming life can do to your productivity. Wink

I decided to keep going and I finished the novel. Then I wrote a novella based around a morbid Christmas theme. I got bored again, popped out a short story about a soul-sucking demon buying a fake soul on eBay. I then wrote another short story about what would happen if two killers picked the same victim and ended up in the victim's house together.

Then I wrote the following story for my up and coming "Fairy Tales Gone Wrong" anthology and wanted to share. Enjoy.

Little Red Glock - Based on the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'

It was a beautiful summer day and a little girl with hair the color of spun gold and happy blue eyes was playing a titillating game of hide-and-seek with some local children. Soon though, her mother called and the young girl (almost a teen actually) went to see what the problem was. She was the last one being sought so she found it to be quite amusing that she was called away while the other children were still looking for her, the fools.

“Yes mother?” the young girl asked.

“Your Grandmother is sick and I need you to deliver this basket of food to her,” mother responded.

“I’m going alone?” the young girl questioned.

“Well yes, it’s only me and you in this cottage and I have to stay home to make sure no one robs us blind while we’re gone,” mother responded with a huff.

“So your solution is to send a girl barely old enough to be a teen out on a journey that could take her through hours of forest on her own in hopes she makes it to Grandma’s house unscathed?” the daughter inquired flatly.

“Well yes, take your red cowl too,” mother replied happily.

“You must hate me,” the daughter grumbled but dutifully changed into her walking boots.

“No, no, that’s just how these things go,” mother assured her with a nod.

“Right, fine,” daughter replied as she packed a bag and slung it over her shoulder before pulling on her red cowl with its bright hood.

“You know I’m just a walking target in this thing right?” daughter mentioned as she tied down the cowl and lifted the hood.

“Actually, no, the foresters looking for game won’t shoot you down because they think you’re a deer in that,” mother pointed out.

“So there is a method to your madness,” daughter proclaimed with a grin.

“Oh be quiet and get out the door with the basket. You’re Grandmother is sick,” mother scolded and pushed the aforementioned basket into her daughter’s arms.

“She’s sick all the time, she should move in so there’s less bother in visiting her,” daughter whined as she was forcibly shoved out the door with the basket in hand.

“Mention that to her. The old coot is too stubborn to listen to me, maybe she’ll listen to her only grandchild,” mother groused with a shake of her head.

“Maybe you should have had more kids before father mysteriously disappeared,” the daughter mentioned as she was finally pushed out the door.

“If your father wasn’t such a drunkard I would have instead of making sure he fell down that well, now shoo,” mother demanded complete with the appropriate hand-motions.

“Right, he was a drunkard and tripped, I remember now. Somehow that seems wrong.” daughter noted with a wink as she stepped down the stairs and began to stride towards the path that would lead out of the village and into the woods.

“Stay on the path,” mother called out as daughter strode off.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. You would think Grandma would be sensible and not live in the middle of the damned forest,” daughter muttered to herself as she walked away.

The young girl, whose name was Jane, trotted along the path at a swift pace. People oft called her Red for the red cowl she wore when her mother insisted on it. Jane liked to be called Red because it gave her an air of mystery since she did not actually have red hair.

Jane kept a good pace as she walked along the path, ignoring the beautifully scented flowers that grew along the edge of the path. She knew a girl named Ellie that was to deliver a basket of goodies to her sick aunt using this same path. Ellie had stopped to smell the flowers and was eaten by a wolf. So the story went but Jane did not know if it was factual.

Regardless, Jane heeded her mother’s advice and continued along the path. The walk itself proved to be boring so Jane took to counting the rocks she saw. That got monotonous so she decided to hum. She had never been a good singer and people told her that a cat sung better than she did. She insisted on meeting this singing cat which irritated people to the end of their wits and left them sputtering idiotically.

Jane gave up on humming when a few birds looked like they wanted to dive-bomb her to make her stop. Jane heard her stomach rumble a few minutes later and lifted the blanket from the edge of the basket to see what was inside. Cheese, strong wine, some soup in a stopped jar and hard bread stared up at her in challenge. There was not anything overly appetizing and Jane thought it a bit immoral to take food from a sick old woman.

She sat her basket down to rifle through her pack and came up with a half loaf of bread and some cheese. She re-shouldered her pack, picked up her basket and continued on her way to Grandmother’s house. The grandmother whom stubbornly lived in the woods all by herself with no one around for miles to help her if she got hurt or sick. It was a perfect journey for a 12 year old.

Jane scoffed at her own thoughts and almost choked on a piece of cheese. She got it down after a few thick swallows and continued on her way. A few birds did dive bomb her then for food but she swatted them to a side with a grumble and the rest let her be.

After another hour passed until she came to a river and decided a break was in order. Unknown to her, a large gray wolf had been following her the entire time. It finally made itself known and separated from the trees to sit near the girl.

“Where are you going little girl?” the wolf questioned when it was close enough.

“A talking wolf? Really? How absurd is that?” Jane groused and promptly went to ignoring the wolf.

“I could eat you, you know,” the wolf mentioned.

“If you could have, you would have. But since you haven’t, I’m going to assume you actually can’t,” Jane told it with a shrug.

“Why you little, you’re supposed to be afraid of me,” the wolf told her.

“And where does it say I’m supposed to be afraid of you?” Jane inquired as she stood and set her feet into a fighting stance.

“Uh, well I am a wolf,” the wolf howled out.

“A scrawny wolf with matted hair and half its teeth missing that can magically talk. I’m not interested and definitely not afraid, now shoo,” Jane told it and made the appropriate hand motions to shoo the wolf away.

“I just want to talk, most people run away from a talking wolf,” the wolf tried with a pitiful moan.

“I’m unlike most people,” Jane assured it with a nod.

“Talk with me then?” the wolf questioned with a half-toothy grin.

“Oh fine,” Jane relented since it would relieve her boredom but she remained standing.

Standing gave her a better advantage if the wolf decided to attack her. She could hit it with the basket then and knock it out. Or kick it in the jaw and send the remaining teeth flying out of its skull. She could even punch it in the eye if she was standing. Sitting would be the death of her.

“So, where are you going?” the wolf asked.

“To my Grandmother’s house. The old broad insists on living alone and she’s sick so mother wisely told me to bring her food,” Jane explained with the barest hints of bitterness in her voice.

“Old broad isn’t a very nice thing to say about your grandmother,” the wolf reprimanded.

“Crazy bat, Ancient coot, Dinosaur, Seer of the beginning of history, what else should I call her?” Jane inquired with a smirk.

“How about Grandmother?” the wolf suggested flatly.

“Don’t get me wrong, I adore the woman. I mean without her, I wouldn’t have been born eventually. But she can be overly stubborn sometimes and really should move closer to the village,” Jane explained, not that she felt as if she needed to redeem herself to a wolf.

“Ah, I see. Why doesn’t she move closer?” the wolf questioned.

“What part of stubborn did you not get?” Jane shot back with a lift of one blonde eyebrow.

“Well, I,” the wolf tried.

“Oh bother, no wonder no one talks to you. You’re a bore. I’m heading to my grandmother’s house now, you go hunt some mice or something,” Jane muttered as she lifted her basket and began jumping from rock to rock to get across the river.

“A bore, a BORE? I’ll eat that girl and her grandmother for that insult,” the wolf growled under his breath and darted off.

He knew a short cut across the river and to an old woman’s house. The old woman batted him off with a sharp broom most of the time, had the same look and scent of the girl so he just knew that’s where the girl was headed. He only hoped the grandmother really was sick or she would bash his head in with that broom again and he would have gotten nowhere.

Jane continued on her appointed mission, not knowing the wolf’s thought process. Being honest with ourselves, dear reader, she probably would not have cared even if she did know. Regardless, Jane made smooth progress and soon only had to cross through a field of flowers to get to her grandmother’s house.

She groaned at this since these particular flowers aggravated her hay fever and sent her into a sneezing fit. But, she would come out of the field with ample time to clear her sinus before coming to grandmother’s cottage and delivering the basket.

Meanwhile, the wolf had all ready made it to grandmother’s house. Having four legs and running did have its advantages after all. He leaped through a window, at least attempted to but did not realize it was closed. He bounced off the frame and landed in a sprawl on the grass. Luckily for him, grandmother was snoring so loudly that she did not hear his misstep.

He finally strode up the porch as confidently as his bruised pride would allow and nudged open the back door with his nose. The door creaked open and he made ready to bolt. When no offending broom came down on his head, he ventured into the cabin to see Grandmother asleep on her bed. Before he could second guess himself, he swallowed her whole.

No one has ever been entirely sure how wolves can do that. They are not snakes and cannot unhinge their jaws to take in prey whole. This wolf in particular was not exceptionally large either so its jaw could not fit fully around grandmother’s head let alone her broad shoulders and massive hips. Logistics aside, grandmother was swallowed whole and the wolf had quite the belly ache on his hands.

He rolled around on the floor for a bit, holding his distended belly and wondering what in the higher power’s name had caused him to swallow the old bat whole. He could have at least chewed! And my, was she a hairy woman. The wolf was certain that grandmother could have easily passed for a wolf if she wasn’t a two-legged walker.

Regardless, he finally got over his stomach issues and stood. Now he needed a disguise to lure the girl into the cabin so he could save her for a snack once her grandmother finally digested in his over-burdened stomach. He quickly donned a flannel nightgown and a bed hat before lying down in bed.

Again, dear ready, do not question the logic of a four legged animal dressing in a woman's clothes when it has no opposable thumbs to use to dress in the previous mentioned woman's clothes with. Regardless, the wolf was now dressed and lying in wait for Jane who was not far from her grandmother’s house.

Jane was completely oblivious to the wolf’s plan and could not wait to get to her grandmother’s house so she could finally sit down and get some proper rest. She was also planning on venting to the old woman about how foolish it was to have a child of her age wandering around in the woods whenever grandmother got sick. Maybe guilt would cause the old twit to move into the home with her and mother in the relatively safe village.

The wolf on the other hand, had fallen asleep. The big meal of grandmother had tuckered him out and the bed was comfortable. His snoring alerted Jane as she approached the house. Jane merely shook her head and rolled her eyes.

“That old bag can really shake up a place,” Jane remarked to herself as she let herself in through the front door.

She let the door clatter closed behind her and the wolf started awake with a half garbled snort-shout. Jane stared at the wolf in her grandmother’s clothing for a long moment and wondered when grandmother had grown so much extra hair.

“When did you grow more hair, Grandmother?” Jane voiced her concerns.

“Oh it’s from this cold,” the wolf said daintily giggled as he disguised his voice.

Jane noticed instantly that there was something very wrong with grandma. She never spoke so kindly and lady like, nor did she ever wear a blue flannel night dress with a pink flannel hat. Jane dropped the basket, swung her bag forward and a Glock was aimed at the wolf’s head in no time. She clicked back the safety with authority and took a wide stance as the wolf’s jaw dropped.

“What did you do with grandma?” Jane demanded and thought something sounded off about her command.

“I, I, what?” the wolf inquired as he forgot to disguise his voice which in reality was better for him as his natural voice was more akin to how grandmother actually sounded.

“I said, what did you do with grandma, you bastard? Oh that sounded much better,” Jane beamed.

“You, you, wait! Why in Hell do you have a gun?” the wolf exclaimed in wonder.

“Uh, because I’m wandering the woods all on my own and I’d be an idiot not to carry a weapon?” Jane countered with a snort.

“You’re what, 10? You shouldn’t have a gun,” the wolf rebutted in awe.

“Am I really that underdeveloped? I’m 12 damn it, I’ll be a teenager in exactly three weeks,” Jane informed him with a scowl.

“Well, you are kind of flat,” the wolf uttered with a chortle.

“Oh be quiet and answer my original question before I blow your brains out,” Jane commanded and squeezed the trigger a little bit.

“Uh, I ate her?” the wolf tried, assuming that honesty was best when facing a 12 year old with a gun.

“You ATE my grandmother? What kind of freak eats a sick old woman?” Jane proclaimed in half-amazement and half-disgust.

“Uh, I was hungry?” the wolf asserted.

“You scrawny little maggot, how dare you eat my grandmother,” Jane shouted and pulled the trigger.

Surprisingly, Jane was a very good shot. The wolf’s brains blew out the back of his head and the rest of him collapsed onto the pillow. A tongue lolled out of what remained of the jaw area and Jane huffed. She clicked the safety back on her weapon before snagging one of grandma’s big cooking knives and slicing open the wolf’s belly.

“It’s about time you got me out of there,” Grandma groused as Jane helped pull her out of the dead wolf’s belly.

“Well I’m sorry, but who gets eaten by a wolf?” Jane inquired with a smirk.

“Aw, shut it girl. Look what you did to my bed! Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of sheets?” Grandma groused.

“No thank you for saving your life? How ungrateful,” Jane chuckled as she helped her not-so-sick grandmother (it’s amazing what a trip inside a wolf can do) drag the wolf’s corpse off the bed.

“Fine, fine, thank you for saving my life you little brat,” Grandma joked as they set the wolf’s body over a large drain in one corner of the cabin so all his blood could flow out of his body.

“I did bring you some wine, cheese, bread and soup since you’re sick,” Jane mentioned as she admired their handiwork.

“Oh I’m not sick, I just wanted to see if your mother would come out here to visit,” Grandma laughed.

“Well it is a long ways to travel to visit an old coot,” Jane pointed out as she began stripping the bloody bedding from the bed.

“Oh bother, I like it out here,” Grandma muttered.

“You do get to live in privacy,” Jane uttered as they tossed the sheets into a basket.

“And I get to hunt wolves,” Grandma stated with a wink.

“What does wolf meat taste like?” Jane inquired as she helped Grandma to drag the washing to the little stream that ran behind her house.

“Gamey, but the wolf furs are warm,” Grandma mentioned.

“Ah, maybe we can line my cowl with them so it isn’t as red,” Jane groused as she flicked the aforementioned cowl back.

“I don’t know why your mother makes you wear that thing,” Grandma groused.

“So I’m a bigger target,” Jane laughed as they began washing the sheets.

“At least you’re a good shot. I’m glad you came instead of your mother. She’d be appalled at all this mess. You can take a bit of blood and that’s what I love about you Red,” Grandma told her with pride in her rough as nails voice.

“Aw, thanks grandma. Now let’s see about getting the blood out of these sheets.”

Eh, necro-posting or not, it's sad to see you go.

You and Firetouch were my very first clan leaders way back when I was still a level 17 or something and learning the ropes. I always look back at that time and smile. Oddly enough, Lest and I randomly mention this game every now and again when talking about, well anything.

Your name was one of the few that didn't change in the actual final draft of the Trilogy because it suited you so darned well. Thank you for inspiring a great character and for being the clan-leader I tried to model myself off of.

Being perfectly honest, I would take the chance for immortality. I'm not 100% certain who I'd pick as the second person but I would definately want to be immortal, especially since I could chose to pass it on once I was finished with life.

Why? Simple. I have a long list of things I'd love to achieve as well as a long list of things I'd like to see. Frankly, I can't see myself doing it all in one life-time.

I know there's the whole debate about seeing all the people you love die. Really though when you're young enough, you tend to see that anyway. Most people live to see both sets of grandparents and parents die. Personally, if I knew I was immortal, I wouldn't bother with children. The only people who I would see die are my friends and the few family memebers I had. Eventually that pain would fade as all pain does.

As for seeing all the pain of the world, well I don't really pay much attention to that pain right now so I don't see myself paying attention to it later (as selfish as that sounds). I mean yes, I do feel sympathetic towards countries/people that are facing strife but it doesn't really have an affect on me as a person.

Personally, I think it would be fun to live hundreds of years. I know I'd be able to keep myself busy enough to not go insane.

Good-bye for now 05-05-2011 01:19 Forum: Offtopic

Just to make things clear: NO I AM NOT LEAVING. Well, not completely anyway.

I AM going on vacation indefinately until I feel like coming back, whenever that may be. After one week on holidays without stable internet access (and no BW Wink ), I noticed that there's really nothing that I missed (besides a few people) and there's nothing really keeping me in the game at this time. I can't even feel upset about dropping in rankings slightly. I'm not even all that upset about not finishing any goals (as insane as they may be) and truthfully, I'm not even sure why I spent as much as I did on premium anymore.

I will be coming back every so often to check messages, put my character on vacation mode and see if Act 3 is up yet. I won't be deleting my character, selling anything or destroying anything. And if I do decided to leave the game forever, I will delete my character without selling anything or giving anything away. I worked hard for what I have and it's going to come with me to the grave if I decided to quit.

My square is currently in V13 (3/8/11) and that's where it'll stay until someone decides they want to swipe it.

Anyway, on to the thankings (in case I actually don't come back ever):

Zauborin: For inspiring me to become a Black Knight years ago (YES, YEARS...lol). I both love and hate the tattoo but I'd never trade it in. And yes, I know he probably won't see this but if it wasn't for his advice, I wouldn't have become a BK.

Diablo: For just being Diablo. The conversations, advice, pokings on FB, lending of people, square building and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now. Thank you.

Sparxs: For being one of the best deputies I've had in DARK and one of the closest people I know on this game. I wish you good luck in the issues you're having now and I hope things start looking up for you. You are one of the few people I'd truely miss if I never came back here. You and a few select others have kept me coming back and pressing on for longer than I probably should have. Thank you.

Notts: I don't even know what to say...lol. Thank you for DARK, for Chatzy, for late night conversations, for computer advice, for your abs *coughcough*, and for being a support system for Daimin when he really needed it....even though he'll more than likely never admit it himself.

DeathJam: Again, for just being you. What started out as a rivalry turned out into a friendship and you becoming DARK's second deputy. Thank you for even giving DARK a chance when it was first started and thank you for the recruiting skills. For all the chatzy conversations and the fun links in clan messages. And damn you, get on FB once in a while, I miss talking to you, you little bugger...lol

Ba_al: Thank you for taking me in at END when I disbanned DARK. Thank you for the random messages and conversations. And thanks for not thinking I'm totally crazy. Tongue

Terrorfel: Thank you for just being you. And for looking scarily like Lest...lol. You will always be the missing triplet. Wink

theheraldfroc: Omfg, I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong...lol. But thank you for the random messages and random attacks. You always kept me on my toes.

Gamecrow, tiger_claw, bensux, minshres, bighead, Titan, DM, razor_blade, shaza, and all the other DARK originals: Thank you for sticking by the clan when we needed it and thank you for even joining in the first place.

La Puce: I know you're long gone and have more than likely long since forgotten about BW but thank you. For the insane conversations, the inspiration and the general flea-ness.

Raziel: Thank you for being DARK's offical first clan alliance member and for making your own clan about the same time as DARK. Thank you for your inspiration in writing, your advice and your kind words.

Daniel86: Thank you for the funny conversations and random flattering comments. You always made my day.

llianna: thank you for the conversations and the wonderful comments on all my work. You were one of the people I knew I could always rely on.

Azz420: Thank you for being the clan leader I looked up to.

Hespera: Thank you (and firetouch) for taking me into the Coven and showing me a bit of the ropes before I took off. Thank you for being an inspiration to all BK's and all those who want to be a successful clan leader.

Knightroad: Thank you for the rivalry, the inspiration to get better and the funny conversations.

Raxis: Despite what some people may think about you, I've always liked you. I could always count on you for all types of conversation, be it simple or more technical. One of these days, you'll get over 1500 points. Wink Oh and sorry again for putting the wrong name. Tongue

Lev: I know we've had our differences in the past but being honest, I have to thank you. You made things interesting...and sometimes frustrating but I wouldn't have changed any of it.

Mortis: Thank you for the board comments, the messages in-game (though few) and for having one of the longest running clans on this server.

Kraftie: Thank you for the random appearances and the advice. For the conversations and for being a part of DARK.

Angelis: I don't know if you're actually around or not anymore and I always wondered what happened to you but I have to say thank you. For being the odd and strange one in DARK (heck, you creeped Lest out and that's hard), for being the one who worked side by side with DK, pardon DJ, in the craziness and for just being you.

Popeye: Thank you for being the inspiration for such a cool character...and thanks for taking your character death well. Oh and for all the comments, they helped me keep going and actually publish Book 1.

Philly: thank you for being a crazy-arse strong BK even when you're only armed with a regular mace. And dang you for being so strong (and changing your name). I wish I had met you sooner in the game.

To the devs: Thank you for creating such a frustratingly annoying and addicting game. If it wasn't for BW, I wouldn't have met any of the crazy people I call friends and probably wouldn't have attemtped to publish anything.

To those in the top 50: Thanks for being frustratingly hard to catch up to and keep up the craziness.

To those new to BW: Keep it up. It takes a lot of hard work, some yelling at the RNG (or whacking it with all those maces you find), a lot of luck and some good friends to enjoy this game. You will get to the top and succeed...once the RNG decides to give you the right mob Wink

To all my farmers: HAHAHA! Sorry, had to. But thanks for reminding me I needed better defense gear. And sorry, no EXP for you!

To anyone else I missed: Thank you...and sorry I missed you. My brain only works for so long.

Will I be back? Maybe in a few weeks, maybe in a few months, I'm not really sure. For those that want to keep in touch, find me on facebook: Dairenna VonRavenstone. I'm usually on once a night at least. Or try to be.

Again, I'm not deleting anything, just going on an extended vacation. I'll eventually be back. So knighty, the whole saying about remaining until the server crashes and burns still holds true. Tongue
...
...
And no, I can't keep anything short and to the point.

That there is the entire reason I would buy Warp. Make people explode? Heck YES.

I like the idea. As for the actual implimentation of it, there shouldn't be too many issues. It would be similar to the expo code with just adding in the choice for tattoo/race, whether you're attacking or defending and setting up something for level restrictions. Just so you don't get a level 85 virtual trainer if you're level like 60. Or the level can be a choice. It might be beneficial to pick a high level virtual trainer once or twice just to see how good your gear is.

There are always five to six arenas going on in V13. I think there was a WD a couple of weeks ago, I can't remember but we do get smaller ones now and again.

I think a lot of people in the lower levels are worried about loss of PoH when they DO get a team. Most of the lower levelled folks are in Z4 which means they can't regain PoH by just waiting with a hospital. They actually have to attack other people and use every attack they can in order to even start an expo, never mind an arena.

I don't think it has anything to do with "they can't get the bigger players to help due to the level restrictions, they realise they'd have to do the work themselves and that would mean actually trying?" I've seen a lot of lower level players that are MUCH stronger then one would think, they actually become a HUGE assest in an expo because they're lower level but can deal damage of a much higher level - less PoH usage.

Again, it's the lack of being able to regain the PoH after they potentially lose it in a team battle.

ARG! Can't rank up fast enough, I keep getting passed by EVERYONE!

ARG! Not enough people to build my square and make my own danged expo.

ARG! no good quest drops!

ARG! Snow storm with a predicted foot+ of snow. Snow can go away, far, far away. (I hear a plow right now...finally. Only took them ALL freaking day to get to my street.)

ARG! No motivation to do much of anything. I know I SHOULD be working out but I just...bleh. At least I shovelled snow, that counts.

I like the night time, having day time for weeks on end would kill me. Well, not literally but I'd be hiding in my house in the dark by day 3...haha.

On the Mayan thing: I could so see them just stopping because they figured they would live to see 2012 anyway. Or simply for the reason it would freak someone out. I know I would.

And...I'd pay to see someone eat their hat...lol

ARG at lack of expos. I need points dang it, people keep passing me and I hate it. One good expo will put me in a secured position but there ARE NO EXPOS! Regen costs are insane, the only way we make it through is doing low towers. Bah.

ARG! Can't get the equipment I need. I wanna kill a spider and move onto other things but again, no expos. And OMFG if we fail this arena I will scream my little heart out. I'd have no honor then and no way to start a badge-attempt spider expo.

Arg...I need stones.

And...I hate waiting. I won't find out for...some time if the short story I just submitted will actually be taken and published. *sigh*

"He said large swathes of the world could face being without power for several months, although he admitted that was unlikely.

A more likely scenario was that large areas, including northern Europe and Britain which have “fragile” power grids, would be without power and access to electronic devices for hours, possibly even days."

So only those with weak power grids will have a few days of blackout if they don't prepare now for it. I'll start being concerned if it gets to the point were NASA says then entire world will black out for years....oddly enough that happened in a manga I was reading...ha.

Absorber is by far one of the best races, just because of the easiness percentage alone. There's been plenty of times where I've said to myself:"Why couldn't I have been absorber, then I could actually wear this NOW..."

I think someone all ready said it, but if you know the strengths of each race and can figure out decent enough equipment, you can use ANY tattoo. The people at the top have proven that. For example, the account tiger_claw started off as a sniper. Then I think he went ranged, then BK (I could be totally wrong with the ranged thing...)

As long as you have the resources and the right equipment, it doesn't matter which race you are for any particular tattoo.

Though, in the end, absorbers tend to trump all in terms of defence/attack. Crit chance, luck plus the ability to swipe other people's arcana...yeah. Kind of makes me want to switch races.

@Paranoia: Actually, you wouldn't steal anything from me since I base my attacks off race. If I DO attack an absorber, I don't use arcana and I make dang sure I can beat them without it. And, I don't have it set in defence so I can't ever have it stolen.

As for the optimal tattoo war, I don't think such a thing could actually exist since people come up with different gear.

this way of working things means expos will no longer be based simple on the items you have found, but or skill and talent as a gamer, it could has brilliant effects, such as alot less expo farming due to people not being able to kill beasts with there uber gear because there gaming retardent, would also cut expo times down from 3 years to maybe 20 minutes Smile
the only bad thing i can see coming from this is the fact there are some pretty decent gamers on this game so the amount of solo expos could rise, which is where a cap could come into play, the game states your unable to run an expo unless your part of a clan, your simply unable to do that, so bringing the clan basis back to the game would halt solo operations, making all expos a MINIMAL 2 man operation, it could work, and it would be an amazing addition to the game it did. just imagine, the sense of pride as you see the basilisk take its last step just before your legendary bullet pierces its eyeball, continuing to lodge itself in the brain and thus winning you the expo Smile
badge please thank you Big Grin

That might actually be pretty cool. Be hard to do for people playing from a cell phone...but people playing from a game system would kick butt....

Anyway, @ the actual thread: we can only speculate and wait. I don't think it'll be Act 3 quite yet, but it could be something just as fun. I doubt they would add any more arcana though, there's enough as it is. A new race, maybe....but then they would have to figure out another way to change into it.

There was a year wait between my gold dragon and golem badge. I mean, yeah I got the medusa but then went on a stale mate for an ENTIRE year. I finally got my golem badge AND noble badge in about a month. Same thing happened when I was trying to get my red dragon badge.

Just keep trying, eventually you'll get it and the rush is worth it. Besides, the badges are supposed to be a challenge. And like foxy said, you can get badges in arenas too.

If they do that, no offence, but I'm leaving. I worked hard to get my square where it was and I don't appreciate wasting that much time and effort only to have it taken away. Yeah, I like this game and the friends I made here but having all my efforts, resources and what not just TAKEN is not okay in my books.

Anyway @ Robbie:
You want sieges? Ask someone in your clan to organize them. Most clans don't appriciate being asked for a siege unless it's from a designated siege organizer or a leader. A random player asking usually gets ignored (from what I've seen).

Join a smaller clan. The top 10 clans all have zoned squares and equipment that gets them the honor they need without sieging. There won't be sieges there because quite frankly, the don't need them. Heck, in a month I can get over 3,000 honor without attacks from my square. I wouldn't really want to join a PoH siege. Resource siege yes, I tend to lack resources. Honor? Not really. I don't need the extra and I need what I have to keep up to speed with people ranking up.

ARG! I sometimes really hate being 5 hours behind my entire clan. All the expos start and FINISH while I'm at work. No wonder everyone passes me in rankings, I can't ever get in on a freaking expo unless I start one. And I can't start one because regen is way too freaking high. Good thing that it's dropping this weekend. Maybe I can get over a dozen points to keep me in the top 90.

ARG! I can't find anything good on quests that I can sell and make stones of off. I'm gaining stones by pointing up (which is at a slow crawl right now re: first arg). I have gear I want to safely upgrade dang it! And stuff I want to merge and things I need to buy. ARG.

AAAARRRRGGGGGG at snow in general. Stupid snow piling up in the parking lot and getting my poor car stuck. Stupid lack of plow services and needing to shovel the almost the whole damn parking lot and walkways. I'm still in pain...stupid snow. I would kick it but knowing my luck it would be hiding ice and I'd slip and fall on my butt. I'm moving to Florida or something where it's nice and warm and they lack snow. Screw white Christmas, the sand on the beachs there are white and that's good enough for me.

ARG! I'm tired and bored and don't wanna be at work right now. I either need to find a better job or some major publisher needs to like my stories so I can just write all day. I'm good at that, I LIKE that. Can I advertise enough to get that? Nooooooo. BAH. I'll have to start double timing again at night. Yay to upcoming lack of sleep.

I'm going to go crawl back into my hole now and mutter at myself while randomly kicking things.

I have a '97 Ford Escort Wagon with the modification of rust along the rocket panels (bottom of the car). It's my first and I won't get a new one till I completely wear it out which probably won't happen for another 200K kilometers.

Hopefully by the time that happens I'll be able to afford a nice Ford Mustang, either a '69 Cobra or one of the newer models (2010 or 2011) in either black or cherry red.

I'm a mustang girl at heart....but come on now, LOOK AT IT:

I suppose that's merry xmas really

ARG! Nothing to sell. I think I find something nice then I want to keep it because it could help me merge something I need. Why can't I find a leg gunner item to sell?

ARG! No expos. :'( I've also used up my amazing 13K honor so I'm back to hoarding what I do have so I can be part of the expo rush on the first.

ARG! No people. Not that it matters. But dang it I want someone to boss around and I can only do that with my people.

ARG! 6 quests done tonight and only 1 passed. Last night it was the same thing, I had 20 quests to do and didn't even make a point. Jeez. Can I get some slack please, I'm only pointing up with quests. Bah-humbug.

Though, I do have to say thanks on the level up from the other day: +1 intel (which I wanted to be able to get a P+1 defence mace), +1 Strength and +1 agility. What more could a BM BK ask for? Smile

Short Story: Itch 12-24-2010 02:35 Forum: Our Stories

So, I was reading submission guidelines for a short story collection last night and one of the topics was 'Patient Zero'. The following is what kind of spurted wildly across the 6 pages. Also, I've been writing a lot of zombie stuff lately, I don't know why. Oh, and I apologize in advance if this makes anyone itchy...lol

Itch

It started with an itch. That’s all it really was, and the first itch happened on my arm. I was in the middle of talking to my friends at school, just updating everyone on what I did over the weekend. My boyfriend had driven into town and he took me to dinner and a movie. We went to the new bar in town and partied until like 1AM.

It was when I was talking about how the bar tender was checking me out when my left arm got really itchy under my sweater. I didn’t think anything of it then, I just scratched it for a bit and moved on. I mean, what’s an itch really?

Soon, quarter after one came and we had to split for class. I was heading to Human Anatomy and Forensics One, my friend Becca was off to Grammar and my friend Lizzie was running towards the Mackenzie building for Nutrition. The campus was huge, so it was a mystery whether or not she would actually make it. And just to clarify, college campus, not high school. This isn’t some corny high school drama.

Anyway, I went to my class and sat down, waiting for the teacher with massive anticipation. I loved that class and still wish that itch hadn’t happened so I could still be in that class. That’s one of the things I really miss: learning. I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm but a lot of people tell me I don’t look the part: “You’re way to pretty to be that smart!” What does beauty have to do with anything?

Class started with a discussion about the skull. Professor Stevens was point out where the occipital bone was when the itch started again. It was the same place, on my left arm above my elbow. This time around, it had spread a bit and crawled down my arm about an inch and a half. I really didn’t think about it, my sweater was usually itchy every now and again.

The day went on as normal and I met up with Becca and Lizzie again around 6PM. We walked down to the school bar in a light snow and ordered some food. We were all sick of the instant noodles at our individual dorms but none of us could afford anything more until the end of the month. That’s when our parents would get worried and send money or care packs. We’d eat well for about two weeks, survive on instant ramen, Kraft Dinner and cheap vegetables when they went on sale for a third week then be reduced to ramen for the last week. College was not the time to eat well.

We stayed there for about two hours, updating each other on parents, little brothers, older sisters, boyfriends and pets. Finally around 8PM we all decided to split and go home. I had a bit of Anatomy stuff to do and some mock criminal profiling and Becca had an essay to write. Lizzie had to study for a test.

That night was freezing. The snow had started coming down in huge chunks while we were in the student bar. It was all ready up to my knees when I started walking back to my apartment, located only a 10 minute walk from the school. I made it out of the campus and felt that itch creep back along my arm under my heavy winter coat. This time it was radiating from the inside of my elbow all the way down to my wrist.

I had to ignore it then; it wasn’t like I was going to take off my winter coat outside just to scratch my arm. I ducked my head deeper into my collar and quickened my pace. The itch didn’t go away. If anything, it got a lot worse. I mean, I know itches get worse when you can’t scratch them but this one felt like there were fire ants under my sweater sleeve feasting on my flesh. It kept migrating too. Now it was my whole inner left arm from the armpit all the way down to my wrist.

I finally made it home in a half-jog, half penguin walk and basically flew up the three flights of stairs. I dropped my keys once and I think I actually growled in annoyance. Once I got inside, turned on my light and locked my door and just about tore off my winter coat and bag just to scratch at my arm.

It felt so good once I was finally able to get the bulk of it. What I didn’t noticed (at first, I sure as heck saw them later) were the white flakes coming from under my sweater sleeve as I scratched and scratched at my arm. I was in the main entrance with my boots soaking through the carpet for at least ten minutes, just clawing at my arm. Finally, the itch went away and I stripped out of my boots and put everything away.

I carted my bag to my room and in the span of those few minutes, that familiar itch started tingling at my elbow. That’s when I decided that the sweater had to go. Yes, it was an amazing shade of teal that highlighted my red hair and green eyes but it wasn’t worth this much trouble. High fashion was not worth discomfort, EVER.

I think I actually tore my sweater when I took it off. I can’t remember and I haven’t really looked at it since. But it did pile to the floor at my feet as I scratched my arm in the darkened room. Finally I flicked the light and caught my reflection in the full length free standing mirror across from my door.

I think I actually fainted when my eyes landed on my left arm. Actually, I KNOW I fainted because I had to get up off the floor to get closer to the mirror. That and my head was just throbbing where I had hit it on my downfall.

My left arm was a mass of red. I’m not talking mild irritation either, I’ve had that before. It was BEAT RED like a stop sign. As if that was bad enough, flakes of skin were literally just falling off my arm wherever I had scratched. I had never seen any rash on ANYONE look this bad. To make it worse, I was STILL scratching. Skin was just sloughing off my arm and sticking under my nails and I couldn’t STOP.

I was actually morbidly fascinated with it for a long while. Just watching the skin fall off and start piling on the floor was kind of intriguing. Then it hit me: this was MY ARM. This was MY SKIN. I stopped and grabbed the top of the mirror in my right hand, holding my left arm closer to the glass to study the damage.

In retrospect, I really shouldn’t have done that. There were black spots appearing where I had scratched the skin too much and they were oozing this clear fluid, kind of like pus. I felt bile rise up in my throat and barely made it to the toilet to relieve myself of the pizza sub and potato chips I had for dinner. It didn’t taste as good coming up as it did going down.

I think I was dry heaving for about 15 minutes before I noticed an entirely different stench coming from my immediate vicinity. At first I couldn’t make the link to what it was exactly. Then I sniffed around my left arm and just stared it shock. Rotten flesh was what I smelled; my arm was turning this sick gray color where it wasn’t red, flaky and pus-oozing.

That’s when I really started freaking out. When I showered this morning, my arm was perfectly fine. A bit stiff because I like sleeping on my left side, but besides that, it was normal. The weird thing was that I could still move it like normal and FEEL. I learned the feel part when I smacked it against the toilet by accident when I got up.

I started making my way back to my room when the lights went out. Total darkness took over the entire hall between my bathroom and my room and I leaned against the wall for support. I heard heavy breathing and thought someone had broken in for a second, until I realized it was just me panicking.

I managed to make my way back to my room when the familiar itch started on my shoulder. This high pitched keening sound started and I knew it was me this time. I think I grabbed the first thing my right hand landed on out of my closet and pulled it on with both arms perfectly functional, even though the left was literally rotting away.

The shirt was my sheer black one which I normally wore a tank top under. I didn’t care at the moment. I stumbled to my front door and pulled on my boots and coat again. I barely remembered to grab my keys and purse before stepping back out of my apartment and down the hall.

I made it to into the lobby, trying not to scratch at my shoulder when the landlord spotted me and called out. I didn’t hear him and he called out again. Actually, I heard him fine, I just didn’t register it was me he was calling.

Finally he grabbed me by the shoulder and I screamed; punching out with my right hand and hitting him square in the nose. He landed with a thud and blood streaming down his face. I didn’t even stop to see if he was okay, I just up and ran out the front door of the building and down the street.

The insane dash to the local hospital was a blur of snow. I fell at least six times and almost got hit by a few cars because I wasn’t paying attention to the traffic lights telling me when I was all right to cross. I think a few drivers screamed at me too, but I can’t remember what they said. All I knew was that the itch had spread into my back and it was getting worse.

I finally saw the hospital up ahead and hitched a sharp breath of relief; they HAD to be able to do something to stop this. I slammed through the doors and promptly slipped and fell hard on my butt because of my slippery boots. A nurse came running to me and helped me up and I remember nodding and starting to rip my coat off.

“What’s wrong hun?” She asked in a sugar-sweet voice.

I finally managed to tug my coat off and her face kind of shifted to one of mild disgust at my shirt. With the knee high boots and skinny jeans I probably looked like a hooker because of the sheer black shirt.

“My arm is rotting away!” I screamed and literally ripped the left sleeve off my shirt to show her.

I saw her eyes widen in shock and she bit back a scream. I looked at my own arm and went to my knees with a sob. My entire left arm was grey and black with pus oozing everywhere. The shirt sleeve in my hand was soaked with it and my coat was actually changing color from white to yellow because of the pus. I had lost all my fingernails on my left hand along the way and the tips were shrunken and black.

“Oh my GOD, come with me, I’ll get you to a doctor right now!” the nurse said and hoisted me to my feet.

I don’t remember much of what happened next. I know the nurse pulled me into this special area and a doctor had turned and literally stared at my arm for a full five minutes before muttering something about prepping me for surgery. The nurse took me through another series of halls and into a room where she handed me a hospital gown and told me to put it on. I think I nodded and turned my back to her.

I heard her gasp and knew the rot had spread down my back. I could feel the itch along my lower back and starting in my right shoulder now. It had also spread across my front, over my left breast and gathering around the valley between my breasts. My neck was mildly itchy and I had the sudden urge to scream. I was going to rot away in less than twenty-four hours and no amount of modern medicine could do anything to stop it.

I think the nurse realized that I was in a state of shock then and moved forward to help me get undressed. I remember turning and meeting her eyes. They were brown and almond shaped. Her face was slightly tanned, her hair pitch black. I saw her pulse throbbing against her neck and this sudden hunger came over me.

It wasn’t a normal hunger like you get from being a few minutes from a meal. I felt absolutely starved, as if I hadn’t eaten in a week. I realized what I was hungry for right away, I could almost taste it. I bit her in the neck hard and ripped back, pulling a good deal of flesh with it. She really started screaming then but I didn’t care.

I grabbed her around the throat with my rotting left arm and snapped her neck. The funny thing is that I had just learned in one of my courses that it’s actually impossible to do that. The way the spine is made and the way the human hands are made, one has to be exceptionally strong in order to actually walk up and snap someone’s neck cleanly and quickly like that.

I heard footsteps coming down the hall then but still couldn’t bring myself to worry. The nurse at my feet had started rotting away quickly, faster than what I was. Soon the footsteps stopped right outside the door and four other nurses stared at me in abject terror. The nurse on the floor moaned and sat up with a crack.

Her head was skewed but she still managed to pull herself to her feet and stare at the other nurses, blood still dripping weakly from her neck wound. I finally swallowed the bit of flesh I had stuck in my teeth and it satisfied that intense hunger like I knew nothing else would. The nurse attacked her colleagues, literally biting hunks from their flesh until they bled to death or she ripped them apart.

More people were coming then and I joined her in the bloodbath. Soon my boots were slipping in the gore. Twenty people lay dead around us apparently the hospital was on skeleton staff since not that many security personal came to stop us. After a brief moment, all twenty people starting moaning awake and getting back to their feet. Their flesh was gray and sloughing away and their eyes were dead. They looked at me and I nodded.

I watched them shuffle away down the hall, heading towards the smell of people. I could smell them too now. The itch had spread across my face, stomach and right arm by that time. The smell of sweat, strong and tasty came to my nose and I followed the little army of mine down the hall and into the main waiting room.

Five people looked up and started screaming. I can’t remember how long it took but soon there was not a single person left alive in the hospital. Not a one made it out either because I made sure my growing army covered all the exits. Once everyone was accounted for and gathered around me in droves, I smiled.

I left my coat where it lay and walked out the doors I had run in what seemed like a lifetime ago. I had come in afraid of dying but was walking out as something that could not die. I felt my heart hitch a beat and stop but I did not falter. I was actually relieved that it had stopped; it meant I wouldn’t lose blood if I got cut. The problem was that I was still itchy, all down my back and my right arm now. But I ignored it and kept going.

I walked with my army down the street and began pointing them towards all the homes in the area. They went without protest and I told 100 to go into the sports arena across the street. There was a hockey game going on tonight and there would be at least 2,000 people there. I watched as my army broke down doors and attacked whatever tried to stop them.

As the sun rose the next morning, I had 5,000 people following me as I walked down the middle of the street. I would command a few to charge into stores and houses as we walked and they would come back with more. No one questioned me though I don’t think they actually could question me. I was the only one among them that had not died to become what they were. I died after the rotting set in, I was superior. The only annoying thing is the itching didn’t stop. It traveled down my left leg now, slowly though.

The only regret I have is that Becca and Lizzie had to die. They were highly intelligent and were great for any type of conversation. But I couldn’t let them live, they wouldn’t accept the new breed of human. They did try to run though and they managed to run over a few of my army, crushing them but not killing them. We caught them quickly enough and they soon joined my ranks.

The ones that were crushed we put back together as well as we could and we continued on. We traveled through the entire city, turning everyone we came across. More than a few had caught on by then and with the technology as it is, it started spreading through the internet and people were warned before we got to them.

It didn’t matter though, not even a bullet to the frontal lobe could stop us. The only thing that stopped us was blowing off our heads and by that time, I had made my sure my army knew how to duck or made the mangled ones lead. Soon they just took to wearing riot helmets over their heads.

There were still some lost with every new city we went to, but we gained a lot more then we lost. It took three weeks to head across the frozen terrain to where my boyfriend lived and all three weeks I was still scratching. When I saw him, he was standing on his front porch, looking like he had been waiting a while. I sent my army off to gather more and stood there staring back at him.

Becca and Lizzie flanked me, plus fifty muddled around behind me. He didn’t say anything and he didn’t move from his lethargic position in the old rocking chair on his porch. I didn’t say anything to him and for a while, we just stared at each other. I think about an hour passed and in all that time, he shifted once. Wind played with his blond hair but he kept his puppy dog brown eyes focused on me. I didn’t move an inch. I didn’t have to: I was dead.

Finally, he stood up and walked towards me. I let him come and he raised his hands, showing that he had no weapon or means to kill me. He stopped a foot away and I could feel the others tense around me. They salivated at his meaty scent; I was the only one who could hold back.

“Amber,” He whispered my name with reverence.

“Yes?” I asked.

He smiled at me then and I smiled back. He lifted a hand to my gray cheek and stroked it. I let him as Becca and Lizzie started groaning in hunger beside me. Finally he leaned in and kissed me. I couldn’t help it then, I bit him. It wasn’t a hard bite, just a nip of my newly sharp teeth against his lower lip. He didn’t draw back and I didn’t bite him again. I did pull the tiniest bit of flesh away went I drew back though and the blood dribbled down his chin. He wiped it away without a care and I ignored the itch in my right leg.

In twenty-four hours, he had rotted like I did; it started at his face and he turned gray and dead just like me. The army only followed my lead though, I was their Queen. Now though, I could select people to keep around so we could talk with them. My boyfriend and I kept his older brother around, my sister and both our sets of parents. They weren’t disturbed by any of it after we bit them, but before they had tried to run. We were gentle with them. I regret not knowing that we didn’t have to kill everyone with Becca and Lizzie, but what is done, is done. At least they’re still at my side, even if I’m commanding them.

I’m not exactly sure how the itching started and I’m not certain why it caused me to just kill or command everyone to kill the living. I’m completely at peace with it though. I’m fine with knowing that I’m dead and that soon, everyone in the world would be under my command. I think the world is better off this way, you know? I mean once a new dead person eats enough, they don’t get hungry. I’ll have to work out logistics a bit more, but I’m sure I can make a better world like this. It’s kind of sad that everyone has to die, but whatever works. Do you want to know the best part? I’m not itchy anymore.

FIN (kind of, I'm still editing and adding stuff but I thought I'd share to see what people thought so far.)

I'll let you know if it actually gets into that short story collection in about May. If anyone else wants to check out the submission guidelines and such, PM in game or here and I'll send you the link. It's mainly zombie stuff and short stories. There's one or two with vampires, but again, short stories. Smile

EDIT: Just realized I need another 4,000 words...haha. This should be interesting...

Goddamn snow and the traffic! <_<

I was only going from Aintree to home and thats 6 miles, when I got home I looked at the clock and it'd taken in total = 2hrs 16mins! Red Face

I SO know what you mean. It took me double or MORE the amount of time to get anywhere in my city last night. Then the main hill route was shut down so I had to go all the way through downtown and into a mall parking lot just to get to a freaking highway to go to class. URG. I left almost an hour before class and it took almost an hour for a 20 minute drive.

ARG at lack of expos and lack of stones. I still have stuff to upgrade dang nabbit.

ARG! Missed getting in the arena because I fell asleep.
ARG! My archane turned into a XR-12 and I missed at least 5-6 points there.
ARG! My shoulder hurts for some insane reason. It's radiating into my neck, down my back and my left arm is somewhat numb. I think I pinched a nerve or something. Do you KNOW how much it hurts to make a turn driving now?

THANK-YOU! I just found a soulstone on a quest. Right before I was about to start screaming about my lack of stones for upgrades. Big Grin

I never paid attention in history (just didn't interest me), so I personally didn't know about the event behind the name.

Anyway, maybe the devs fully knew what the name meant and are using it as a irony thing (as LucifersAngel said).

I don't think they intended to offend any one in anyway. Besides, it if was really that offensive (as a whole), I'm sure the Polish Realm would have said something by now. I'm not saying it's not offensive, but if you do want it changed you may have to PM szj directly.

Right now this thread just looks like you're questioning the purpose of the event or the event itself, not the name. It doesn't look like a complaint, so the thread might not ever be seen.
