the most popular armour i have seen for a BK is Helmet of Adrenaline, Vest of Deathsower and Shorts of Scout. they give the defense you need and also agility.
defensively, along with the titanium set and crystal of bloodsucker, you can just pile on the defense as there is no max to the tattoo. you aren't going to hit anything...but when daggers etc do 2-3 damage a hit you're not really going to need it. best bet though is to make sure you keep around 55-65 agility as that will also put off some gunners (low agility, higher chance of getting hit with the + to hit tattoo) from ambushing you.
As to the list of beginner weapons i'd like to add Legendary Broad as a possible option. Huge chance of crit is always fun

Actually i'm worried about the squares of those we are abandoning in our clans. they won't have access to our help if they get sieged...or to our items for building from the clan armoury
