The PL website overall is dramatically better than the EN version and has been for a very long time. I don't think the game has any chance of growth with this kind of preferential treatment and the resulting lack of effort being translated to other regions.

@Devs - I work at a video games outsourcing company. Among a host of other things, we do Player Support, Community Management and ... Translations! ^^ If you need any help, let me know and we can get talking.

I've been thinking about this one. The only logical reason not to apply them is that it will mess up peoples dynasty achievements.

I raise a counter argument.
  • Changing it now makes it harder for new players to compete for Dynasty awards. 100% true.
  • However, unless the top 5 quit, new players will never catch up to them. So its a moot point.
  • New players are getting farmed to death which is forcing them out of the game.
  • Meaning, it doesn't matter whether the changes are made now or when S2 starts. Because none of the new players stick around to make it that far.

I hear what you're saying, and sure. Experienced players can work around this and help the new players who dont know what to do.
But even then, this is not an enjoyable experience for anyone involved.
  • New players are forced out of the game because they're starved.
  • Experienced players are mega frustrated due to the immense time wasted with bickering and doing 64 attacks a day (mostly against inactive players).

I would hazard a guess that the devs have realized this problem based on the recent changes in the patch notes. I assume they kept the changes to S2, so they dont mess up S1 statistics. OK, sure. But these changes are needed the MOST of servers in S1.

Will it mess up the dynasty statistics? Sure. But it will give the servers the best possible chance at growth. And I think thats worthy trade off. Maybe the devs dont... but its certainly worth a discussion ^^

As a tangent topic: If you want to test things, have muuuch shorter seasons of testing periods.
1 month long? Sure, I'll play in that! 1 week long and everyone starts out with prebuilt accounts to do the testing? Heck, i bet everyone would play that.

Good thinking. If the player count was high, but then drops - what happens to those Zone 4s. Simply going inactive would be sad. In that case, turn it into an event. "In 7 days, the Lord of Darkness will destroy the most recently conquered city in Zone 4."

A small piece of gamification to work around a silly problem. Maybe it would have minimal effect, but it could encourage further conflict, because players do not want "their" Z4 to be the one that was most recently conquered.

Yea, I don't think that would happen either, which is why I tried to think of a system that can be applied to all servers. Something that works dynamically for both servers with large and small player counts.

Because right now, based on active players, Blood Wars is not a very big game in EN speaking countries. That's not because the game is bad, only because entry to the game is too difficult.

Beyond that, many of the games core aspects no longer exist, in part due to the Good Samaritan feature and mainly due to the lack of conflict. I do think that much smaller clan sizes in general will go a long way in helping to fix this.

TL;DR
To better incite the games primary theme of conflict:
  • Clans should be limited to 10 members,
  • With new mechanics added to increase that count alongside the number of available Zone 2's.

Great Patch! Nice little changes. I'm left wondering as to whether or not its gone far enough.
The maximum amount of people in any one clan is dropping from around 50+ to 30. Let's break this down.
  • Ultimately, this means that there will be more clans on a server.
  • It also combats the "mega clan" problem by dividing the most motivated and opportunistic players into smaller groups.
  • Being a pseudo perma-death styled game, this is great as BWs revolves around War, Strife, Struggle, and other synonyms for conflict.


OK. So overall, this change makes sense and is a good change. However, I believe that it does not benefit servers in equal measure.
Lets review how it this takes affect for the UK player base.
  • Firstly, this is for Seasonal Servers only. So UK1 and UK2 arnt changing.
  • UK3 restarted this morning, so I cannot check its active player counts.
  • UK3 had ~700 accounts on it yesterday.
  • UK4 has ~470 accounts on it as of today.
  • Unfortunately, the rankings on UK4 are misleading. For example, I play three of the characters in the top 25. I know many in the top 50 are also other players alts too.
  • It's safe to say that there are approx 20 unique players on UK4 that are active enough to count towards the games ecosystem.


So while very cool on paper, we now see that this change means nothing towards UK4 and likely UK3 too.

UK1 has a much bigger population, and thats great. But even if this was applied on UK1 today, how big of a impact would it really have? The main thing to consider, is that this change seems intended to inspire the games core fundamental, which we've already established to be conflict.
Basically: it further emphasizes the incentive to war - primarily due to the limited number of top tier zones available.

I argue that there is effectively an unlimited number of zone three's in Blood Wars. The game simply isn't popular enough for 144 active members (plus the 13 from Zone Two and One). It's also safe to assume that Zone 1 will almost always be bouncing between the clans in positions #1 and #2.

This means that, when we're talking about the incentive for war, we're specifically talking about Zone 2.
This then boils down to the follow statement of absolute truth.

Players need to have a chance to win. Far too often have we seen top players forming into a "mega-clan" making it pointless for smaller clans to waste time trying. And right now, while limiting clans to 30 might work on a handful of servers in other regions - it does not work here. As mobile games take over the market, I can only assume it does not work in most other regions too.

10 years ago, Blood Wars certainly did not support small clans. You needed to group up for two reasons: Safety and Expeditions. When you could only join 1 expo a day, you needed a regular team of people committed to you.

Good news though, the game has fundamentally changed due to one thing: the Good Samaritan feature. You can now have a clan of only 6 people and remain competitive towards every PvE encounter in the game.

Let's not forget, clans serve two other functions worth consideration: community and the clan armoury.
Like any mobile game out there, the community is served via the inclusion of the global chat. So thats fine. The clan armoury is indeed a sticking point, but if anything, smaller clans creates a critical task for each player: to help and develop your clans CA.



This leads me to my final observation. Smaller clans are better clans. Not only does it encourage players to work as part of the team once again, through arranging expo times and CA sets, a dynamic that is missing the game right now. But it also encourages the conflict, which does not exist in any UK server anymore. At all. Zilch. Zero. Nadda. etc.

So what is the right size? We can make do with 6. Sure. Totally! But is that too extreme? Most likely.
A better solution is to use the current mechanics in the game and twist them to work better.
  • Clans start out limited to 10 players.
  • The maximum member count of a clan increases by 1 for every 100 active accounts.
  • Active accounts are those that have gained at least 100 points in the past month.

But wait... what about servers like UK4 that still wont have enough clans to match the number of zone two's out there. That brings us to part 2.
  • The default number of Zone Two's is 2.
  • Another Zone Two unlocks for 40 active accounts on the server (double the number of clans to war over the zones).
  • Increasing to an eventual maximum of 12.

Done v2. These two changes will insight conflict within a server, forcing clans to fight over resources. They bring a sense of community and teamwork back into the game in a time when it's needed most.

Ohhh, thats juicy. I dont mind if in the end, it needs to take a completely different direction, but knowing the plan is very cool.

- Less attacks with better rewards is a big plus.
- clans have a maximum of 30 members: I would go even lower to bring back that need for war, and maybe do something to encourage the use of sieges more.

Mb sieges are still active in other regions, but here.. let's just say that when I did some random takeover sieges on UK1 with my 1 player clan and people were like "omg a siege woooooow" Tongue

I read that this was still up for debate some time ago. Any progress on this, has anything been decided? What about thoughts on how long "Seasonal" servers will last for. The name makes it seem like 4 months a pop, which i think is a good amount of time to reach act 3 and end-game stuff.

It would be cool to bring over like... some junk (not literal in-game junk.. like arbitrary titles) to the new server.

I would love to get some dev input on this and opinions on what other players want or perhaps even expect to see happen.

Hello everyone! Long time no see. Hope you're all doing well.

I've started playing on UK4 and oh boy, the servers population isn't exactly booming. On one hand, I'm loving the smaller nature of this server - it all feels way more personal! On the other hand, well.. even hitting everyone I can the moment they become available, I never go beneath 20+ attacks.

A shame, but there isn't much to be done about that.

The AH however, now that one could potentially never open up at this rate - and that is something that can be changed. Should it be changed? Im not sure, but the current conditions simply do not make sense.

Auctions system will be automatically turned on when the number of players entitled to use it reaches 100. The current number of entitled players: 18.

Seems reasonable... so why do I say it doesn't make sense? Well right now, UK4 has maybe 20-30 active players. We're very very far from unlocking the AH. Here's where it doesn't make sense: any server could have 100 eligible players, but if only 20 of them are active, then its the exact same situation as UK4 right now.

The requirement should be 100 active players, not "eligable". Problem being, never mind this side of Christmas, I have my doubts whether UK4 will ever reach that target.

Not having an AH or any way to trade items, certainly changes the games dynamic. Sure, right now there aren't any major problems as loot is very easy to come by. But it is certainly a sad fact that we're missing out a pretty cool element of the game.

Final thoughts...
I partly wanted to rant, partly wanted to say hello to everyone ^^ But really, with the increased drops, its not a major problem *right now*. But it will quickly become a sad state when we cannot share loot to help encourage the various different types of builds available in the game.

@BW Dev Team - what are your thoughts on this?
@the 20 active people on UK4 - what are your thoughts on this?

If you check the "Path to the Ancients" page on the homepage of the tutorial wiki you will see the updated title screen i made a long time ago.
I personally think its more appealing than the original version and you can change it to the homepage if you agree. Let me know if you want any help with the wiki since I got a bunch of experience working on it when I recreated most pages on it a few years ago.

Hmm, then perhaps it should say "the wave of enemies", as you only fight one wave per level.

Its extra code to make it different per level i guess, i think it adds a tiny amount of cool factor though if it was unique to the level "the third wave of enemies has been defeated, how much longer..." etc.
Instead of "The first wave" multiple times anyway.

Anyone else care to share an opinion? =)

I duno man, can you argue that for the pl servers too? They do have more actives than us here sure... but how many more, double? triple?

From what ive been told none of those servers are near being full either - just having more players and MORE money to gain from them, does not mean they wont make a profit from another here.

I was kind of miffed when i saw pl getting r17, they have 17 and we have 2 .. everyone saying all the UW players would go their is a bit of a stretch, but heck loads of us would.

But not only that, a lot who have quit will come back to the game with a new server. I would go and unlike necro (snore fest) i would stay.

I want a new UW so much i tried to play on other servers, but the language barrier kills the game (as its 50% a social game) and i know sooo sooo many people have also tried this - meaning that they would all play and stay on UW2

.. BWs devs would make a profit opening another UW server here ... enough said.

Is there a gain for any member in the team? If so, then Batman's point is still valid, exp growth will jump up, meaning even more stones coming into the market, meaning more inflation etc.


But thats the same situation with joining as a samaritan - it means more people can start expos and thus more drops.

Samaritan starts just means that everyone can get a join Red Face


tho .. yea people could take advantage and flood areas with teams.. but thats what gather the hunters option is for i guess ;/

Basically the samaritan system applied to starting expos. I dont see why this would be much different to the joining feature as its basically the same.

You start an expo as a samaritan, people can join any way they like but you dont get any exp for it.

Another new expedition option. Works on either/both the expedition map and/or the koth map.

Lasts as long as a normal expedition - however as soon as you start it, its in the traditional "phase 2" mode - aka these are single man expeditions - only you go on the scavenge hunt.

Why? The reason to even bother is that you get a chance of loot - as long as you defeat the area monster at the end.

The area boss is 1 of the mobs you would normally fight in that location.
The area boss could also be a smaller version of the koth location.

The loot can be gathered in multiple ways:

  • You can have a series of "scavenge" reports before you reach the boss each containing a chance to loot some stuff (items, junk, resources) or unluckily nothing at all, akin to quests.

  • Or, it can just be the loot you gain from killing the expo mob - but thats less fun and entertaining.

The first method inspires people to go in different builds and play more risk verse reward play styles. I.e. do i want to go with more damage or more luck.

You could also add in some random enemies throughout the scavenge hunt, other players and mobs you encounter out in the wastelands - trying to steal you haul so far and get rich quick.
  • This could result in some lovely pvp options, the ability that .. once you defeat another player - you have the chance to steal some of the loot they have already gathered.

  • It also makes your gear more important too, do you go with the pvp build or the pve build. Do you go with a "few big hits" build for single mob battles or "lots of weaker hits" build for outnumbered battles?



Optional: Once you start the scavenge hunt, you cannot do any other actions such as change gear, do quests or attacks and join koth and expeditions - as you away from the city ..

This way its a end of the day thing to do after you have finished everything. You can still get a few in a day along with a Samaritan or 2 as well.

a loss to honour makes them pretty risky ... even with how much easier it is to ge it these days .. its still often not worth that risk

I think its more akin to being defensive about something you invest time in, not mad =)

This reminds of when you hear tales of these sad, round shaped boys stealing gear in mmos and similar styled games and getting a kick out of it - then crying and screaming whenever some hardship comes their own way.

However some people dont even have the footballs to do that, they steal the gear and then delete their own account ... perhaps out of a fear of repercussion or just stupidity ...

Oh but of course these boys claim they were not really afraid, after all it was planned long ago ... very smart move on their part ... so much of ones time and energy spent plotting .... and eventually after a short period of time these people are forgotten and they then realize how much their time they have wasted ... years even ... =)

When i saw this a few days ago on the pl forums i assumed it meant searing blood but i wasn't 100% sure. Could of been something else for all i knew.

I would rather someone post it with nothing extra added to it than nothing at all. If anyone is such a perfectionist and wants it translated perfectly, do it yourself and show off you superior skills Big Grin
