There are many wierd and wonderful facts out there... and many people know them, so come please share.

1) Pigs orgasms last up to thirty minutes

5) Apparently (not sure on the truth of this - but some you science geeks might be able to confirm) if you take all of the empty space out of all of the atoms that make up everything in the world, so that you are left with just the sub-atomic matter..... it will fit in a pint glass.

There is also a kind of monkey (Bonobo I think?) as well, which are so obsessed with sex, that that they are the only species other than humans that have same-sex relations, therefore proving that they also do it cos it is damn good fun!. Big Grin

A boring but interesting fact u might want to know is the difference between a puddle/pond and a lake! Lakes must have different thermal levels allowing the formation of different habitats at different levels thus different life forms depending level which they are! There's one for the pub quiz! Big Grin (will think of a funnier one next time!)

Here's one (or several) for all you budding Christians...

Fact:- most Pagan festivals were usurped by the Catholic church, to help make the religious & political transition of countries easier on the people, and to help stamp out pre-existing religions.

Proof:-
1) Yule, the winter solstice (which fell on 25th December in the Roman calendar). 25th December was designated by Pope Julius I as the birthday of Christ.

2) Imbolc (1st February), the start of the spring quarter of the year, associated with the Celtic virgin goddess Brid. Adopted (on 2nd February) as Candlemas, the feast of the purification of the virgin. Brid was renamed as Saint Bridget, this remained her feast day.

3) Lupercalia (14th February), a celebration of fertility. Adopted as the feast day of St Valentine.

4) Eostre's day (The first full moon after the Spring equinox). The symbols of the fertility goddess Eostre include the egg and the rabbit. Easter is the first sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, and is representative of Christ's ressurection.

5) Beltane (1st May) The start of the summer quarter, celebrated by lighting fires and by maypole dancing. Roodmas associates this day with the Cross (the Rood), rather than a maypole).

6) Lughnassadh (1st August) the "grain festival" at which bread from the first harvested corn was eaten. The Christian Lammas ("loaf-mass" service has a tradition of blessing the first loaf of bread).

7) Samhain (1st November), the start of the winter quarter, the Celtic feast of the dead. All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day (1st and 2nd November) remember the souls of dead saints and non-canonized dead respectively.

I'm sure there are more; but these are all the ones I know of. Wink

Well two things to this, because we were taught about this, it doesn't, it's just the growth rate is incredibly slow once it reaches certain length... this is due to the weight....

Catholic ceremonies, knew that one too.... I was argueing with a catholic about it...

Did you know that only 2 witches were burned to death in Engalnd (I think it was two, it was a tiny amount, might have been noene)
