the one child policy really isn't that absurd, think about a booming population, that is growing exponentially, limiting a couple to one child is not just stopping the population from increasing by three or four, look a few generations down the line if each couple had say 3 children, you end up with over crowding and quality of life begins to crumble.
And they may not have what we would think of as a good quality of life, but it's all relative.
Brilliant UK law of eating mince pies being illegal, that's a beautiful one, oliver cromwell hated everything about christmas, so went about criminalising it.
His house was in a tiny city called Ely located in East-Anglia.

also this law is only enforced in the major cities....once your out of these zones many many people ignore this law
