Trophy from Pilgrimage to the Wastelands Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

Trial of agility, chance of success: 24 %.

Whirling discs of light appeared from nowhere. Thanks to years of living in constant danger, you managed to stay alive.

'Get him! I want his body for autopsy', yelled a familiar male voice, piercing your body with fear. You were sure. This time the Fires of the Temple wouldn't help you. If they caught you, they would let you out only if they wanted to.

Sprint, dodge, corner and sprint again. You strained all your vampiric senses to trick your oppressors, but it didn't seem to work.
You didn't know how long it lasted before the discs began to recede, but you still felt that someone was following you. At last you could calmly look around. It was that place where your son was conceived. Stones were glowing with the same brightness, but the colour wasn't a mix of red and blue. Now it was pure blood-red.

Suddenly, the ground broke apart under your feet and you fell.
You were in grotto, walls were trimmed with paintings. At the very end of it was throne made of strange greenish stone. The throne glowed more intensely with every step towards it, as though feeling your presence. When you touched it, the throne nearly blinded you with its shine and a transparent person sat on it.

'Welcome child of my flesh and blood of my blood. This place is your legacy. Nearby stones make our powers thousand times more powerful. This is the power, that the First-born used to protect their homes. Take what you find behind the throne it's your inheritance.'

You gain 55 experience pts and 117 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Necklace (+3), Vest (+3).

Great Evil

Test of appearance, chance of success: 41 %.

You seethed with anger when you were sneaking towards Lupine encampment.

Spies had been searching wastelands with no effect for several months. However, the map Zia's brother had given you in a package was the thing that let you find her.

You saw patrols setting off from the camp. You found out that there were no chances to enter it. Time was passing slowly when you were creeping and trying to see him just for a moment. It certainly wasn't a bad protected village, but rather a well organised stronghold. Every group leaving it was escorted by a guards squad. At dusk the encampment was closed and patrols covered the whole terrain tightly.
After four days of being on the watch, something favourable occurred. Group of women went out of the camp with baskets full of dirty cloths and headed to the river. And Zia was among them. You crept using every shadow as protection. When women started to wash Zia, as if by instinct, sat a bit further, near thicket.

You prowled and hailed her. You saw the joyfulness and fear which flashed through his face. Nevertheless, she didn't turn away, kept calm and continued washing as if nothing had happened. No one noticed your silent talk.

Time was passing very quickly for you. You felt growing danger, danger connected with staying in the very midst of enemy's camp during the full moon. Wolves prone to change were leaving the encampment during full moon to decrease threat to others. That was the moment Zia and you were waiting for.

On the seventh day you saw Zia leaving the camp. You had already been there. You had crept in night so nobody could see you. It was a magical night. The amulet, which was taken from the ancestor's grotto, emitted red and blue light. Inside of it, colours were mixing and changing.

'Take it and give it to our son', you said the next day, 'it'll help him when he is in need.'

On journey back to the City, you found a corpse that had been clawed by a werewolf.

You gain 57 experience pts and 118 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Cap (+3), Shirt of Guard (+4).

Trial of toughness, chance of success: 34 %.

This time you had no chance.

The darkness fell suddenly and then it was only emptiness. You heard voices, steps, but you were unable to determine the direction. Seconds became minutes, minutes became hours, time ceased to be something real.
The only thing that kept you alive was the red glow of amulet. Somewhere far away someone gave order and you heard steps. A hand? A paw? From darkness emerged a paw and seized the amulet. The paw's owner cried with great pain. Sweet, grey smoke rose in a place where the beast tried to take your amulet.

This event somehow activated the amulet. It heated up, but didn't burn. The light of the amulet started to disperse blackness. Black which wasn't even real. It was a delusion that hid your oppressors. Flat, crocodile like heads, skin covered with bony tumour, tails and hands with three fingers. Only one race looked like this.
'Setits', you whispered. You saw surprise on faces of creatures that were surrounding you. You jerked and chains broke. They were far too self-confident, too certain about their abilities and they made a mistake. The last mistake in their lives.

The struggle was very quick. Enemies died in blink of an eye. Your belongings lay on a nearby table. You took your clothes on in a hurry and fled. Corridors were like a labyrinth. Several minutes after flee you heard the sound of a horn. Probably they knew what you had done and pursuit would begin immediately. You ceased to care about being invisible and started to run through the corridors. You had a feeling of running circles.

Rushing out from behind the corner you ran into Setit. Force of the collision threw both of you in opposite corners of the corridor. Setit intoned a mantra and pointed at ground under your feet with his stick. Explosion broke the ground apart and flung you into the wall which for your and your opponent's surprise collapsed revealing... laboratory!! The same as in the complex you had discovered at the feet of the Mountain of Change. You dashed into the complex, leaving astounded Setit behind. The system of tunnels was nearly identical to that complex.

These passageways were well know to you. You headed straight to exit.
Patter of single feet aroused your alertness. You lurked near the entrance to the room. Your enemy didn't even see what killed him. One fast blow and he was lying dead.

You gain 58 experience pts and 126 litres of blood.

You headed hastily to the exit and then to the City. You had many things to think over.
During the quest items were found: Bandanna (+4), Mace (+3), Hat (+4).

The Stronghold of the Order stood half day's journey from the City. They were a group of fanatics, patterning themselves on the ancient Inquisition. Their only goal was to destroy all supernaturals. However, after a couple of spectacular defeats, they requested help and support from the lord. They were granted rights to live in the City and to change the ruined bomb shelter into their new home.

Hooded people, with so many weapons that they looked rather like merchants than warriors, moved in to the Stronghold. The former bomb shelter was changed to something that reminded you of medieval castle. In the library master Zachar was waiting for you.

'What's brought bloodsucker to God's house?', he asked as if this place belonged to him.

'I need your men to tackle with some business in the wasteland', you told him expecting negative answer.

'We don't belong to you and won't be your errand-boys of any bloodsucker', he answer expectedly.

'Don't you want to take revenge for the death of master Caleb?', you asked with a note of suspicious irony.

When you were leaving the Stronghold, Zachar's importunate questions followed you like a shadow. Two days later messenger brought you a package. A sheet of paper was enclosed to it. 'It's a gift for you. It'll help you in fight. Messenger is at your disposal alongside with two squads of assault troops.'

You gain 59 experience pts and 69 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Hard hat (+3), Club (+3).

Congratulations! You have managed to complete task: There is a couple of ways to gain respect in the world of undead. One of them is possessing powerful artefacts. Complete four Pilgrimages to Wastelands. You feel your strength growing. Energies of the planet and the Ancient fight to change your body. You gain 1733 points of progress and 1x Bloodstone!

'Hi Diego. How is it going in my favourite bodyguard agency?'

'Pretty good, thank you for intercession during the meeting of the council. What do you need? Rumours are that you are preparing some bigger action.'

You took at careful look at your interlocutor. If he heard about the action then he must have had better spies than you thought. 'I need all your boys together with the best equipment you can provide'. It was the first time you saw such bewilderment on Diego's face.

'If I may ask, for what you need them and how much you are able to pay?'

'I have a business in the wastelands. I hope this will be enough for payment?'. You threw Diego a hand-size diamond, a souvenir from Golem's accident.

'Enough.' said Diego, his eyes were burning with greed.

The next day you received a consignment from Diego. 'Little gift from trusted merchant', you read in enclosed letter.

You gain 57 experience pts and 111 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Knife (+3), Club (+3), Shorts (+3).

Proof of perception, chance of success: 32 %.

Column of armed man looked like a military parade. The only difference was that these people had rather the most advanced weapons and the best camouflage suits than shining ceremonial dresses.

You looked at the sky. Stars were shining brightly, lighting up your way. You spotted a familiar shape over the horizon and waved. It recognised you, reversed and descended towards you.
You ordered your man to stop and not fire. Humans and... non-humans looked at approaching Sphinx with mixed feelings.

'Welcome CESARZ', shouted Sphinx. You remembered that among its kind calling someone by his name is considered a great honour.

'Welcome Sphinx', you answered. These creatures revealed their name only to a couple of trusted men. You were sure that Xazar didn't want to share it with your companions. 'We are going to deal with Setits hiding at the feet of the Mountain of Change.' You saw as Sphinx frowned upon the sound of name of the serpent tribe.

'Go, I'll see if I can do something to help you.' Some people at last exhaled when they saw it taking off. Two hours later it returned and told you every detail on positions of Setits on your way.

'Take this, my friend. I've found it recently, but it's too small for me', it giggled with its dreadful voice and flew away towards the Mountain of Change.

You gain 73 experience pts and 34 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Short bow (+3), Hard hat (+5).
Trial of strength, chance of success: 32 %.

You're approaching your target. Thanks to informations from Xazar, the journey was quick and with no obstacles.

Last night before reaching the destination, together with your clan, you performed protective rituals, providing the army with immunity to Setits' powers. Time was passing quickly. An hour after dusk you were at foot of the Mountain of Change. You led your army into the tunnel and to laboratory, guiding them through safety devices. First fights were expected to start there.
When first group of soldiers was being fired at in narrow corridors of the laboratory, it seemed there is no other way than toilsome capturing small parts of the labyrinth. Having a hunch, you entered one of the rooms. Heavy two-handed axe glinted in your hands when you swung. A thin partition wall was as soft as butter. In no time you got through many rooms and surrounded the enemy.

Embattled and relentlessly attacked Setits didn't resist for a long time. In a second their defence broke and they were all slaughtered.

You gain 74 experience pts and 54 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Helmet (+3), Headband (+3).

Proof of knowledge, chance of success: 22 %.

You were advancing slowly. Colour of walls became orange and a while later red. Little red lamps made you feel uneasy. Strange glow of red, differing from other lights, drew your attention. You had had a lot of preparations before the journey.

'Hide!', you ordered and started to run towards the exit.
Blood pulsing in your veins strengthened you. You rebounded and landed on ceiling. Rebounded again, pirouetted and landed like a cat behind the soldiers. When you reached another corridor, you heard firefight.

Bullets were like hail, destroying everything on their way. Several less intelligent (or probably less lucky) soldiers were literally torn apart. You started to recall memories. You read about it in one of the books... "Automatic Defence System" and those red rays were used for aiming.

You looked about. You sheltered in orange zone. Suddenly you recollected. The ancestors used red to warn of danger.
'Somewhere in here should be a control panel', you thought and started to search. After a moment you found a protruding, irregular shape of the panel. It looked identically as the one in the book. After a few tries you managed to turn of the defence system.

Odd, maybe some time ago someone had tried to pass through. The panel didn't need any passwords or codes that you had read about. Behind the doors armoury appeared.

You gain 71 experience pts and 52 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Cap (+3), Shirt of Fencer (+4), Mace (+3).

Trial of agility, chance of success: 16 %.

You gain 53 experience pts and 119 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Kilt (+3)

Aye, at least task done Big Grin

You felt that you were approaching your target.
Walls were covered with Setits' symbols, painted using stinking green and yellow ooze, which burned your hands like an acid when you touched it. You still had in mind the poor fellow who leaned against the wall.

When you entered next room, you felt dizzy. 'Setits' tricks', you thought, 'they're playing with my mind again.'
The world bent, twisted and straightened. You were standing in a clean, well-lighted place. Your son was standing by the side of Setit priest. His head drooped over his chest.

'Surrender if you want this boy alive', demanded the priest.

'Never, you sneaky, hypocritical piece of mutated pig's pooh', these words contained all your hate to the Setits. Your modified Glock with magazine full of deadly fragmentation bullets was aimed at the head of the beast. You felt warmth on breasts, in the place where ancestor's amulet was hanging. For a while the view began to fade, but one element remained the same. Your son was in a place where only an instant ago the priest had stood. Jewel on his neck was glowing with mix of red and blue. You blinked and the view returned to former state, but now the gem was glowing through the priest. You aimed at your son and shot.

The world whirled, chewed you and spat you out. Your son was awakening from trance.
A moment later first soldiers appeared. You ordered to continue ransacking. You were sure that after the death of Setits' priest, they would surrender or flee and hide in a new refuge and try to threaten the world once again.

Your bags were full of loot.

You gain 79 experience pts and 73 litres of blood. During the quest items were found: Mace (+5), Dagger (+4).

Congratulations! You have managed to complete task:

Complete all Pilgrimages to Wastelands.

You feel your strength growing. Energies of the planet and the Ancient fight to change your body. You gain 5042 points of progress and 3x Bloodstone!

A small ritual altar was everything that the mage had left behind.

Around you, you could see tracks of various creatures lured by unnatural power. Those which tried to go nearer to the source were burnt with magical energy. When you were scouring the environment the smell of burnt flesh was making you sick. Most of the corpses lay within 30 feet from the centre of the ritual. It seemed as if an unknown power barred their way, letting through only a few chosen.
The mage didn`t make it too difficult for you. His track could be easily seen even for a beginner. You must have been extremely self-confident to walk in this manner on the Hatchery.

A distant glow ascertained you that you were approaching your target. A rabbit family ran by you, they were probably answering to the call of the ritual, luring creatures just like fire lures moth.
As you were nearing the ritual circle, at first almost imperceptible, now began to burn your body. That which had once been a discomfort, now became a real danger. Corpses of larger animals showed you the way. The sight of a dead wolf brought it home to you that going further might result in your death.
You took out of your bag a sack of magic powder, which had once been given to you by a wolfish shaman, and began to rub it on your skin. It took a whole before you recalled the spell that should call a protective power. `Hagrr norch ergo`, you sang in an ancient wolfish dialect and felt as the power that had been attacking your body now began to weaken and tried to avoid you.

You approached the mage, who was still doing his ritual, and hid behind a nearby boulder.

The sight of a phoenix landing in the middle of the circle surprised you entirely. But the most interesting was yet to happen.
The mage mounted it and flew to the north!
It seemed that this was only a preparation for a much longer journey.
As you were searching through what remained from the ritual you found a body of an adventurer who wasn`t prepared as good as you.

You gain 148 experience pts and 54 litres of blood.

During the quest the following items were found: Good Suit (+2), Good Hat (+2).

Hmm this thread was for good finds on Pilgrimages, so now serves no purpose as we have Lucky Finds.

I'm not sure where this post belongs, perhaps you can start a new thread for Quests passed with super low chances (say 5%).

Closing this one anyway, and well done Wink
