Final Fantasy Debate

Who do people think the coolest Final Fantasy Villain is... also favourite characters

I'm sure people here play FF

Mine:

Kefka from FFVI, he won the award for greatest final fantasy villain of all time as well, so meh i don't think I need much more of a reason other than his laugh Tongue

Character:
I really am stuck between three in particular, Auron (FFX), Shadow (FFVI) and Vincent Valentine (FFVII + Dirge). Though they are all very similar, I thik i just like the darker good guys Tongue

Dunnoy why people like VII so much, it was voted one of the worst storylines. I think it's juts the characters, and the fact it was the first full 3d FF game Tongue

FFVII and FFVIII were both great games
another blinder at the time was Star Ocean 2
and even further back before them
Secret of Mana was an awesome RPG
and i will always have a soft spot for Shadowrun (SNES version)

star ocean 3 is till the end of time, 2 came out on the snes not long after the secret of mana(pal re-release), both are clas, and WTF, ff7 is the best game ever created...ever, and dull storyliine, r u jokin me, lol

Oh and shadow hearts is good aswell, although 3 is a step away from the series

FFVI got voted the greatest storyline in any game to date.

VII is very watered down, and slightly OTT.

Shadow Hearts is nothing like Kingdom Hearts.

And I have completed KH, only the soundtrack is worth it

Where was 6 voted the best??? 7 has been voted the best game of all time in dozens of publications nevermind the best in the series, the only game that even comes close to 7 in being voted best game is super metroid on the snes

Well i think 7 is the best in the series, apart from the amazing storyline, it was the 1st commercially sucessful rpg to hit western shores, it single handedly revolutionised role playing games and is the template in which most jrpgs are based on today Tongue

Unfortunately the truely die hard fans disagree.

VI is supposed to have the best villain, due to his sprite laugh, then also the best storyline.

IV is supposed to have the best characters, however VII the best system, and because it was the first full 3D one it was commercialised amazingly, that's the main reason, so the ysay at Enix, just pot luck

Fanboys will never truely appreciate the later additions as thay are stuck in the past with blast processing. While admitidly 4 and 6 where good games, both bench marks in the series, 4 for introducing the chocobo as interactive. But 7 was the progenititor behind the realisation of character growth, the longer you play the more you care what happens to the characters, this is proven at the end of the 1st disk when sephiroth *confronts aerith.

*didnt want 2 spoil it for ppl who havnt played the game

Surely that's hipocritical. Since VII is in the past, LONG in the past now, in theory then XII should be the best, I personally thought it was VERY thin.

I mentioned blast processing, i.e. the snes games, 1 to 5, so its hardly hypocritical as 7 brought the series into the mainstream and woould hardly be considered an early addition as it the 7th game in the series.

and the remakes are straight ports with added content

No they aren't. They are completely remaking them for PS3, becasue they are the two games people want most. VII was a close third, but they decided it was easiest to make the sequels instead. But they are going to make IV and VI as games for the PS3, specifically full 3D

I also really liked X, my favourite character combination.

The playstation 3 remakes were never confirmed, 6 is being remade for the ds and will be 3d. 7 will never be remade Frown

as SquareEnix are afraid of ruining it, lol

10 was a great game, finished it like a million times, lol, not as good as 6,7, 8 and possibly 9.

Oh and just realised i said 1-5 were made on the snes when i meant 1-6

My opinion X was better than 7-9. I didn't like the PS1 versions that much, I sorta hate the clunky graphics.

And the remake for VI has been promised, along with a film for X

As far as i kno the only ff game for the ps3 are 13 and its variations, can you post a link to prove otherwise?

And if the reason u dont like the ps games is because of the graphics then...your are missing out, the playstation hosted some of the greatest games of all time, metal gear solid has terrible graphics, still amazing.

And did you know there might be a chrono trigger remake? that would be amazing XD

Well and the fact that VIII was over-sappy. VII had a very weak ending. IX was too childish by far.

Also I like Tekken 2 most of all of them, which had those awful graphics, and digimon world 2003

Oh and your information about FFVII being the best game of all time is very wrong.

Pokemon was, and that's what they say, then Mario, Then Sonic 2 I believe it was and then Dynasty Warriors.

There are very few rpgs that even compare 2 7 and 8, both eastern and western

That;s a matter of opinion. I really don't like them as much as the others. The PS1 versions I don't like. And the cut scenes weren't that amzing at all... look at X at the pool where Tidus and Yuna kiss.

I think I like X and XII more than VII VIII IX due to the soundtracks as well, the same thing I like about Kingdom Hearts. For all my metal I love JPop.

EDIT: Well i do like them, just not as much. I stand by the decision that VI was the best overall. It has Ultros!

Yea but 10 was on a far superior piece of hardware.7, 8, and 9 all had amazing graphics for there time.

And as far as soundtracks go 7 and 8 are definatly the best (in my opinion Tongue

7 had the most memorable and have you even heard liberi fatali from 8, one of the best orchestreal pieces ever created. And yea the kingdom hearts soundtracks are amazing xD

Yes I've heard it. But when the LOTR films came out, well it was drowned by that matery in orchestra. Actually my favourite soundtrack is VI, it is perfect to the game, especially the one with the additional bonus ending piece, it made me cry.

But the newer ones have vocals.

Ampther series I am fond of is Shin Megami Tensei, especially Digital Devil Saga, but I couldn't complete it Tongue

Who thinks they should go back to the old system for battles? I personally preferred having specific characters rather than everyone being able to do anything.

Wow, we have completly different tastes in rpgs Tongue

i despise shin megami tensei, its way 2 bland and the stories arnt good at all Tongue

I perfer rpgs like chrono trigger, lost oddyssey, the tales series, star ocean, dragon quest etc...

In relations to the systems used, both have there merits but overall id prob perfer characters to have individual skills

yeh cos then you get Auron who is my favourite character I have decided.

FFXII did not have one decent character.... uhh well actually I liked Balthier.

The DDS series is he best Shin Megamei Tensai.

Don't like Chrono Trigger much, love Star Ocean: Til end of Time Being the best, Albel the Wicked is possibly my all time favourite RPG character, I also love the battle system.

Don't like D Quest, but only played a demo.

My faves are Might and Magic, VI being the best yet again, Elder Scrolls.... those are brilliant sets of games, Shadow Hearts...

Yeh. I also like Champions and champions:RTA well basically I have a really strange collection of loved RPG's

Though I also like Dynasty Wariors, though Samurai is even better

And for western rpgs might and magic is clas and yea 6 is the best, knights of the old republic...amazing and elder scrolls = best western rpg series bar none, lol

I definately like the Might and Magic games more than any others. I like VI the most because it is so damn hard. I got my characters to level 410, and still the devil queen kicked my backside, because I couldn't get the repeated fire of the rifles to work Tongue

IX was not a might and magic game, was more like Wizardry 8, which is awesome.

Elder Scrolls is great, mainly because you become what you want.

I am so looking forward to spore though it's not an RPG it's gonna be great!

I have played a few FF games, not all, but a few. But friends of mine have played em all to death.

From what I have gathered, working in the gaming industry (in the past, not now) VII is widely regarded by fans as being the best. In terms of what you got for the age of the game. To this day FFVII will sell for more than any other FF game. I know ppl that have gone out and spent hundreds, near enough a thousand, on buying an old working console and to be able to play that game. (not to mention what some ppl have paid for unopened packages of the game itself, and even opened versions)

Personally I think it is one of the best in the series. But then I haven't played them all.

If the company isn't remaking it now, you can rest assured it is purely to build up to making it later. Ppl will buy IV and VI and all the rest to see what improvements they have made in them so they can then start theorising what improvements will be in the remake of VII.
