Online games - For what lead they? Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

Many people playing online games by many hours a day. They don't go from house and they sink in virtual world. It becomes addiction in certain moment and not many people pass case about it.

I invite for discussion. You can describe situations, which you know.

In my opinion, we must fight with new sickness of civilization. I don't envisage my children, or grandchildren, when they spend their all lives before the screen of computer. I think we must help these people to come back to real life.

personally i use online games as a way to chill out and kill boredom. but i know people who actually arrange their day around games. like i know someone who didnt go to a job interview so they could play a game........it controls some people and not the other way round

I think multiplayer online games are a big improvement Smile

Before the internet became affordable, if you sat at home gaming (or reading or whatever) all day, perhaps if you couldn't leave the house easily (eg due to illness) or if you were not socially gifted, you often spent days or weeks alone at a time. At least now it is easy to talk to real people whilst gaming. In fact with the advent of chat programs, webcams and Skype, online gaming is a rewarding social activity. It can sometimes take the place of 'normal' socialising for those of us who cannot, for one reason or another Smile

I think online games are a plague, some people are getting infected and can't get they're butts of they're chairs, lose contact with reality, and everything around them becomes uninportant and some don't give a damn about online games, i can't even write how many times i wanted to quite BW.

this game is highly addictive (along with several others I won't name Smile ) but it is very worrying when we think of people we know who's lives revolve around online games. A friend of mine lost his job because of staying up all night every night playing a very well known rpg. I play to take my mind of real life and to have a few hours away from everyone around me-it's a game, its meant to be fun Smile

Well social life > games, but only if social life =/= games. Basically i go out with my friends, and mostly play computer at their house, so i'd rather stay home and play computer here, at least at home i can do whatever, lay across the sofa, and fiddle with... uhh... stuff if i want to, at their house i can't really, i'd kinda get kicked out if i did that.

Also, just remembered, me and bensux got addicted to an MMO before, for the whole summer holiday we stayed in playing it. I don't play it anymore, he still does. So yeah, we're both basically gamer nerds, but only because if we don't do it at home, we'll be at a friends house doing nothing. (you tell me, would you stay home and play computer all the time, or go out to your friends and play computer there instead, or for some of my friends, drink/drugs)

Lmao... my sad story of addiction

It started with World of Warcraft Frown I played for a year and a half and in that time created 3 lvl 70's (this was before WOTLK) and my play time amounted to an average of 8 hours per day (because during school holidays i wud play for more than 12 hours on some days). Thinking that i sleep for about 8 hours per day this means tht i played this game for half of the time tht i was ever awake...

i stopped playing 7 months ago and now i am addicted to BW (although WAY WAY less heavily) although i have been playing BW for a little over a year i only started playing seriously 7 months ago.

You arent supposed to admit that Peb.

Hmm I think that internet games are good. but you have to be careful. I mean BW consumes a lot of time for my sleep, hwoever I dont sleep much anyway, so I'm filling the gap with my addiction to BW... wait til I;'m a student

Peb you are a genius, thankyou.

Ontopic:

Online games are eeeeevil. They cost valuable drinking time (I've had a few too many mishaps playing BW and surfing the boards drunk, so I now hide my laptop before I go out on a proper session)!

I too think that, for some,MMORPG are an addiction and it's even been suggested as such by psychologists. This is a technology driven world and at some point I'm sure we'll all sucumb to the vicious will of the electronic gadgets Wink . I mean really, what would some or most people do if they lost cell service? Internet? Some people would lose their ever loving mind if they lost something as simple as email!!

As for me, I live off the beaten path more or less and no cell coverage here. Most people work out of the home but I work at home and social interaction IRL is limited throughout the day. It's easy to stop by BW, hit a few buttons, browse the forum and leave off and on all day. It also looks like a nice way to meet people from all over the world! No matter what political differences there are between the U.S and XYZ country, this place is common ground and it's very nice common ground. Smile

I ran across this site through my Yahoo! search engine lol, I was looking for another game to play since the game that I played for a little over a year just vanished Frown . I wasn't too sure about playing BW though, it's more complicated than the game that I had been playing. I'm finding the new challenge to be worth it though Smile , it's a nice change!!!

One thing that I have noticed is that gamers in general don't seem to be very social creatures and I'm not sure why. I suppose us posters are the minority, good thing too....I'm the type that never shuts up Big Grin kidding!!!

I no im gay.. but thats a nice comment :) Personally, ive not seen another american here 8o

I disagree with everyone. I dont think games are a drug.. or anything along those lines. Its just another form of entertainment. Life today has become so varied that no1 can say you dont have it, as its compleatly different for everyone.

I dont do what i 'should' do, i do what i 'want' to do. I.e. if im asked to go out and i want to stay home waiting for an auction, i will!! But only because it effects the game that i play for 4 hours a day!! lol Thats a big thing to me.. why bother at all if your not guna try to do well? To me, thats not fun!!

Gaming has become a sort of sport, you train and compeat. Excelent fun :D

btw - i dont think i 'should' go out, but many people think going out is what people should do, so thats the example i gave ^_^

Heh, you're gonna get flamed for that "no other americans" post Tongue

And tip: if you're gonna highlight a word make sure its spelt correctly Tongue

I agree though Razerei (did I spell that right?), online games can definitely be a place for people to set aside social differences and from friendships Smile
